Minnesota Twins at Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Preview

Two of the division leaders in baseball square off on Tuesday night when the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Minnesota Twins. At home, the Dodgers are heavily favored with a -220 moneyline, while Minnesota’s moneyline is set at +180. The game also has an over/under of 8.5 runs.

The Twins head into Tuesday’s series opener, barely clinging to their lead atop the AL Central. Minnesota leads the Guardians by just one game and the White Sox by just two games, so the race is tight. The Twins have also struggled to find much consistency or string wins together, going 4-3 thus far in August and 7-7 since the all-star break.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers are one of the hottest teams in baseball, winning eight in a row. Dating back to before the all-star break, they’ve won 19 of their last 22 games. That stretch has given Los Angeles a commanding 16-game lead atop the NL West and the best overall record in baseball.

Julio Dealing

Julio Urias will try to keep it going and give the Dodgers their ninth straight win on Tuesday. The lefty is 11-6 with a 2.57 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP over his first 21 starts of the season.

Naturally, he’s heated up alongside the Dodgers over the last several weeks, as Urias has been the winning pitcher in eight of his last nine starts, with the Dodgers winning all nine of those games.

Not surprisingly, the LA lineup has provided Urias and the team’s other pitchers with plenty of run support lately. During their current eight-game winning streak, the Dodgers are averaging 6.5 runs per game.

Even with Freddie Freeman and Trea Turner cooling off lately, Mookie Betts is red-hot, while Max Muncy and Cody Bellinger are also heating up despite having subpar seasons overall in 2022.

Joe Knows

The Twins will counter Urias and a potent lineup with youngster Joe Ryan. The 26-year-old is having plenty of success in his first full season in the majors, going 8-4 with a 3.67 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP over 17 starts.

Ryan has given up two earned runs or less in five of his last six starts, although the outlier during that stretch was a start against the Padres, in which he gave up ten runs over 4.2 innings thanks to five home runs.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota lineup has been quietly consistent but not overpowering lately. The Twins have scored at least three runs in six of their last seven games but averaged a modest 4.3 runs per game during that stretch.

In recent days, key figures like Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton have started to slump just a little, although Nick Gordon has turned things up a notch to keep the Minnesota lineup in decent form.

Staying Hot

Until the Dodgers see their current winning streak come to an end, it’s going to be hard to bet against them. As mentioned, they’ve been close to unstoppable with Urias on the mound for nearly two months, with no reason to think that’s going to stop anytime soon. Bet on the Dodgers to beat the Twins on Tuesday night.
