Churchill Downs Delays the Construction of the Queen of Terre Haute Casino Again

Churchill Downs has delayed completing the Queen of Terre Haute Casino’s construction again. It has done most of the work at the gaming site, but the construction crew has to wait for the Department of Homeland Security to give the gaming operator approval before they erect steel components.

Its officials state that this is normal in a casino’s construction process. Yet, it might force it to postpone the casino’s launching date from late this year to early 2024.

Michael Rich, Per Queen of Terre Haute General Manager stated that some construction approvals have to be given first according to the state of Indiana’s law. He claims that the approval can be issued any day and the casino’s construction will fully resume after it gets a green light. Rich stated that this will take place instantly.

The Casino’s Updates

The casino’s executive stated that they have new food and beverage concepts. The gaming company initially wanted to add a Steakhouse and a grab-and-go choice. But it will add a restaurant, thus enabling the gaming floor to offer three food options.

Churchill Downs will move its rooftop pool to the ground floor. It wanted to build a small pool on its rooftop as it has limited space and has to create enough parking space for its clients. But, the casino’s relocation to a larger venue will offer guests a thrilling pool experience once it constructs a bigger pool deck.

Visitors will have a larger bar and lounge space. The company plans to offer amazing cocktails and small-plate food in Rock Wood, its bar and grill. Also, it will offer great Terre Haute views facing north, west, and south.

Lucy Luck LLC Isn’t Lucky

Voters backed a referendum in November 2019 which allowed Vigo County to host a casino. Greg Gibson’s Spectacle Entertainment collaborated with Hard Rock to submit a casino proposal to the Gaming Commission after a month. Gibson founded Lucy Luck LLC to be Terre Haute Casino’s holding company.

Unfortunately, the Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) failed to renew Gibson’s Vigo casino license before he constructed it. This was a result of Lucy Luck’s failure to create a complete financing plan and form a competent team. Its officials claimed that banks had given them five commitments once they got the gaming license.

Gibson appealed the IGC’s decision but it got rejected hence allowing the commission to have a second bidding round. It received four Vigo casino proposals in September 2021 and announced Churchill Downs Inc. as the winner after two months. The Kentucky company later received the Vigo gaming license.
