WSOPE has Second Poker Champion

23 year old Dario Alioto of Italy has won the second WSOP bracelet at this year’s inaugural WSOPE event and is also the second European to win a bracelet. Alioto won the pot limit Omaha championship and with it, £234,390 and the coveted WSOP bracelet.
Though there was a strong poker contingent entered from the US, only Andy Bloch and Ted Forrest made it to the final two tables of the £5,000 buy in event.
WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack is exited about the tournament so far, “It’s as though we’ve picked up where we left off at the final table of the 2007 main event in Las Vegas. That was the most international of tables and affirmed the global appeal of poker. Results here in London further suggest that the rest of the world has caught up to American poker professionals. This bodes well for the continued international growth of the game.”
This pot limit Omaha championship was held at The Casino at The Empire in London with Alioto as the winner and bracelet holder. The other finishers were: Istvan Novak of Hungary in second and winning £137,280, Tony G, currently from Australia, finished third, winning £94,380, fourth went to Ireland’s David Callaghan along with £65,520, Antoine Arnault of Paris was fifth place with £49,530, Sherkhan Farnood, from Afghanistan, finished sixth for £38,220, Helsinki’s Sampo Lopponen came in seventh for £30,420, Andy Bloch, from the USA finished eighth for £22,620 and Joseph Aval won £16,380 for ninth place.
10th through 12th won £11,700 a piece, 13th through 15th pocketed £10,140 and 16th through 18th won £8,580. There were a total of 156 top poker players in the event.
