Corey Thompson Wins First WSOP Gold Bracelet with $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Turbo First Place Finish

wsopThe 2016 World Series of Poker has seen several poker players earning their first ever WSOP gold bracelet, from amateur players to poker pros. The latest winner to claim his first bracelet win is Corey Thompson, a poker pro who recently finished in first place during the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Turbo event. Thompson was able to outlast a field of 1,397 players to earn the win, claiming over $221,000 for his efforts.

The poker tournament would last only two days and feature 30 minute blind levels. By the end of the first day, the field of 1,397 players would be narrowed down to only 28 players going in to day two. The final day would see Thompson towards the bottom in regards to chip stack but by the time the final table was set, Thompson held the second largest chip stack.

The final table would whittle down to the final two, with Thompson taking on Enrico Rudelitz. Thompson would have a chip lead of more than three to one with more than 60 hands to be played before the final hand would go down. Rudelitz would actually gain the lead for a short time before Thompson would take back the lead once again.

On the final hand, Rudelitz would go all in with A-7 off suit and Thompson would call with Q-J off suit. The board would run 10-8-2-9-6 giving Thompson the queen-high straight and the win, giving the pro his very first WSOP gold bracelet. Placing Rudelitz in second place, coming up just short of the title win.
