Wizards Have No Reason To Trade Beal

There are always those NBA franchises who consistently finish near the bottom of their conference without even a semblance of competitive fire.

The Washington Wizards, however, the No. 9 seed in a watered-down East this year, are not one of them. And they have no reason to trade their superstar, Bradley Beal.

Return of Wall

Over the last two years, as John Wall has sat out all but 32 games, Beal has become the superstar that he always knew he could be. He has proven his ability as an all-world player with his 30 points per game average, which shockingly enough was not enough to get him to the All-Star Game.

And when the team gets Wall back next season, they will again have one of the best backcourts in the league. With no disrespect to the likes of Ish Smith, Tomas Satoransky, or Isaiah Thomas, none of those guys are as good as Wall on either end of the floor. When you put him back in, you have a two-way standout.

And so, considering that Wall is going to be back at full strength next year, there is no reason to entertain trading Beal. By doing that, they would be prolonging their rebuild for the next several years. They do have a lot of money tied up to their talented back-court, but Portland does too because you have to pay your stars.

They have got some up-and-coming talented youngsters like Rui Hachimura, Troy Brown, and Thomas Bryant here. This is a very young roster that just needs to draft wisely and add a veteran voice or two to the locker room. That terrible Ian Mahinmi contract finally comes off the books, too.

Past Blunders

We are only three years removed from this Wizards team being within a win of the Eastern Conference Finals. That team played hard and had a great competitive spirit. And if Kelly Olynyk had not played the best fourth quarter of his life, they could have been within four wins of the NBA Finals.

This is a franchise that has always had bad luck and struggled to win the big games. If they stay the course here with Beal, they may be able to become a serious force within the next two years.

The haul for him could be something special, but nothing they get could possibly beat the production they get from him.

The Pelicans’ return on the Anthony Davis actually made them a more dangerous team, but that is an outlier here. They finessed the Lakers out of all their young talent. Both teams are looking good for now as a result, but they mortgaged their future for the now.

The Wizards are a team that has work to do if they even want to be a contender again. But it’s important to remember that the Wall-Beal combo is good enough to make them a winning team. It’s about who steps up.

They need to draft a guy that can get buckets. Another scoring option could surely help them. So please Wizards, do not trade Bradley Beal.
