Western Conference Semifinals: Golden State Warriors vs. New Orleans Pelicans

The Warriors and Pelicans will meet in a crucial game 4 of their Western Conference Semifinal playoff series. The Warriors lead the series 2-1, but New Orleans blew out the Warriors in game 3, 119-100. The Pelicans will be trying to even the series at two games a piece, while the Warriors are hoping to bounce back and steal a road game.

The Warriors looked like the best team in the NBA during the first two games, but the Pelicans brought them back down to Earth quickly in game 3. New Orleans continued to play at a quick pace, and this time it was the Warriors who couldn’t keep up. The Pelicans can put a ton of pressure on the Warriors if they win game 4. The Pelicans are +5.5 against the Warriors in game 4.

Warriors’ Depth Let Them Down

The Warriors lost game 3 in large part due to the lack of scoring from their bench. Key veterans, Shaun Livingston and Andre Iguodala, combined for just 6 points in the game 3 loss which was well short of their season averages. If the Warriors are going to win game 4 then they will need a much better game from their role players.

Stephen Curry started in game 3 and he showed a little bit of rust after a sparkling game 2 performance. Curry scored 19 points, but needed 19 field goal attempts to get his points. Curry was also the Warrior that was tasked with guarding Rajon Rondo, and could not slow the Pelicans’ veteran point guard down. Look for Curry to have a much better game 4 on both offense and defense.

Rondo and Davis Lead the Pelicans

Anthony Davis has been an absolute monster in this series, and game 3 might have been his best performance yet. Davis poured in 33 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in leading New Orleans to the home victory. The Warriors don’t have anyone to matchup with Davis and he should have another great game 4.

Rajon Rondo proved once again why is he one of the best playoff performers of this era. Rondo was able to do whatever he wanted on offense and dished out a whopping 21 assists while also grabbing 10 rebounds for the Pelicans. Rondo seems to step up his game in the playoffs, and he is more than capable of leading the Pelicans to a game 4 win as well.

Warriors Bounce Back

The Pelicans were terrific in game 3, but they don’t have the talent that the Warriors have. Rondo and Davis give the Warriors a ton of problems, but they still need better play from the rest of their roster. The Pelicans can’t rely on Curry having another off night, and must have a plan in place to deal with the big 3 of the Warriors.

Golden State has too much experience to dwell on their game 3 loss. The Warriors will put game 3 behind them and will be ready to bounce back in game 4. Look for the veteran Warrior team to be locked in for game 4 and looking to send a message to New Orleans. The Warriors will score too many points for the Pelicans in game 4, and will take a 3-1 series lead. Bet the Golden State Warriors -5.5 over the New Orleans Pelicans.
