So far so good for the No. 20 Washington State Cougars, who have won their first two games this season. This is not a team that is to be taken lightly, as they are now searching to get up to 3-0 on the campaign. Coming off a season in which they went 11-2, Mike Leach has his guys fighting hard to begin another year. They finished the year No. 10 in the AP Poll and are looking to break through once again this time around.
Houston, on the other hand, has some improvements that have to be made. They have regularly been among the better teams in the nation in recent seasons and will be hoping to do so once again this year. This is an early challenge for them, and one that Dana Holgorsen will hope that his team can meet head-on. Their defense has not allowed them to get much wiggle room, while the offense has been effective.
The spread for this game favors Washington State by 10 points, while the over/under is set at 75.5.
Cougars Try To Keep It Going
We are just two games into the season, and we are already seeing a star emerging in Anthony Gordon. He has tossed nine touchdowns to just one interception. He has thrown for 884 yards and completed an astounding 81.1 percent of his passes. Max Borghi has scored three rushing TDs, while they have had a number of receivers step up to make things happen. Eight different guys have receiving TDs after the first two weeks, showing that they will be tough to bottle up, and proving why they are such heavy favorites.
They have recorded four total sacks while coming up with two interceptions in the early going. They have forced six fumbles and been quick to the recovery. No player has been consistent though as nobody has more than a sack, so look for one player to stand out this time.
Houston Looks To Get To 2-1
Houston is led by QB D’Eriq King, who has only thrown three TDs through two games and one pick. He has 306 yards in all but has run 21 times for 102 yards and three more scores. Kyle Porter has 160 yards on 33 attempts, but he has not been dominant, exactly. There is a lot that has to be better with this offense for them to have a chance tonight, and the odds of that happening are not too great.
Like Washington State, there is no one dominant player on the defense who has been effective for each of the first two games. If they can find somebody to come out and play a big game, it sure would help things out.
Washington State Comes Away Victorious
This game will be exciting from the start, but it is not going to be too close. This will not be a happy ending for Houston, which will be taking the defeat.
