Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys Betting Preview

Washington is going to look very different for the rest of the year. After the gruesome leg injury to Alex Smith, suffered 33 years to the day of Joe Theismann’s, his season, and career are both in doubt. The team now goes to Colt McCoy, who had some reps as their starting QB four seasons ago.

For Dallas, they are gifted a major opportunity to try and move into the top spot in the NFC East. The Redskins inability to close out Houston opened the door for this game to see the winner on top of the division.

Redskins

The driving force behind the team’s 6-3 start was the defense, which ranked #5 in the NFL in fewest points allowed per game (19.8). The offense is averaging the same figure, as they have not been able to finish drives. However, Adrian Peterson– who we did not expect to see in the league this year- came to this club, and has been huge. He’s got 727 rushing yards (4.2 YPC) and six touchdowns, with one more TD as a receiver. With Chris Thompson in and out of the lineup thanks to injuries, he has been that much more important.

During the few drives he led last game, McCoy came in after the Smith trauma, and threw a pair of TD passes. He moved the ball well and looked very comfortable. Unfortunately, Jordan Reed is the team’s only receiver with more than 300 yards, so guys have to step up. Watch for Ryan Kerrigan and Matthew Ioannidis on the D-Line to be pressuring Dak.

Cowboys

From dead in the water to playing competitive football, it has been a quick turnaround for the Cowboys. Now at 5-5, they have a chance to take control of the division with a win this week. Dallas has the 25th ranked offense, but are #3 in fewest point allowed per game. The defense has been the key to their success, and that will have to the case in their Thanksgiving game this year. DeMarcus Lawrence is leading the way with eight sacks on the year and has played a major role for their defense.

Dak’s number certainly aren’t impressive by any means, but he has done a good job of limiting turnovers. He has 2,318 yards and 11 TD’s (in 10 games) but only has five picks. Since acquiring Amari Cooper, he has 169 yards and a touchdown in three games. Cole Beasley is leading with 454 yards receiving, and Zeke is not far behind with 341. He has been a workhorse on the ground with 953 yards and five TD’s, while Dak has run it in four times.

Cowboys Win a Close One

Dallas is going to win! They will get to 6-5 and take over atop the NFC East. They will not cover the -7 spread though, as this will go to the wire.

The QB battle between McCoy and Dak will be a fun one, but Prescott will have the last laugh.
