NFL Week Two: Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings

The Green Bay Packers will host the Minnesota Vikings for what should be a terrific NFL game in week two of the season. Both the Packers and Vikings were able to win their season opener, and this game will be for first place in the division. The Green Bay Packers lost both games against the Vikings last season.

The Minnesota Vikings looked sharp on both sides of the ball in their season-opening victory against the San Francisco 49ers. The Green Bay Packers needed a late rally to defeat the Chicago Bears at home in week one. Both teams are expected to compete for a playoff spot in the NFC this season. The Minnesota Vikings are a one-point underdog in this game.

Cousins Looks Solid in Vikings Debut

The Vikings brought in Kirk Cousins this offseason in an effort to improve their quarterback play. Cousins threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener and was able to take advantage of the many weapons the Vikings possess on offense. Adam Thielen hauled in six catches for 102 yards and Stefon Diggs averaged 14.3 yards per reception. The Vikings offense should have success against the Packers in this game.

Minnesota had the top scoring defense in the NFL last season and have almost the same defensive group back. The Vikings intercepted three passes and forced two fumbles against the 49ers in week one, and will look to keep pressure on Rodgers and company on Sunday. The Vikings defense should give their offense great field position for many of their drives.

Rodgers Knee A Big Question

Aaron Rodgers injured his knee in the season opener but was able to return in time to lead his team to victory. Rodgers has been limited in practice all week but is expected to start against the Vikings. Rodgers was able to find his favorite target, Randall Cobb, for 142 yards and one touchdown in the comeback victory. Look for the Vikings to try to take Cobb away in this game, forcing Rodgers to throw to the other receivers and running backs.

The Packers defense was a mess last season, but they looked much better in the second half of the game against the Bears. Clay Matthews and Nick Perry were able to get pressure on Mitchell Trubisky of the Bears and will try to do the same against Kirk Cousins. Green Bay will have the ability to win shootouts this season, but at some point, their defense will have to play a complete game.

Minnesota Moves to 2-0

The Packers are a surprising favorite this weekend with Aaron Rodgers injured and Green Bay’s lackluster performance in week one. Rodgers will always give his chance to win the game, but the Vikings present a real challenge in this game. Minnesota should put a ton of pressure on Rodgers and force him to test out that knee.

Minnesota has a loaded roster and they have lofty goals and expectations this season. The Vikings are able to dominate a game on both sides of the ball, and they should be able to do that in this one. Look for Minnesota to handle the Packers and move to 2-0 on the season. Bet the Vikings +1.0 in this game.
