Out of the Pac-12, the Trojans of USC will play at the Arizona State Sun Devils. This is part of the Week 4 slate in College Football. The USC Trojans are 3-0 on the season and coming off a bye week last week. The Trojans have wins at home against San Jose State, Nevada, and Stanford.
For the Arizona State Sun Devils, things have not gone well. The Sun Devils beat Southern Utah in their season opener and since have dropped back-to-back games against Oklahoma State and Fresno State.
The Trojans of USC are massive favorites in this game. USC is listed at -35, with a total of 61.5 points on Saturday night.
Sun Devils With Major Struggles
It’s been pretty ugly for the Sun Devils. Since the win over Southern Utah, they have scored just 15 points. Both those games were at home. The Sun Devils are down to their third quarterback, as Jaden Rashada and Jacob Conover are all out for this game.
Drew Pyne, the former Notre Dame signal caller, will get the start. Pyne has thrown 13 passes for 52 yards and two interceptions this season. That leaves Trenton Bourget, a 6’0 junior from Tucson, as the lone backup. He threw 47 yards last week with an interception.
There are not many paths for the Sun Devils to win this game. But, if they are to have a chance, Cameron Skattebo will need to have a big game. The top running back has 36 carries and 148 yards with two touchdowns on the season. When he needs a break, they will need DeCarlos Brooks to be good. The run game is averaging just under 100 yards per game.
Arizona State will not find things any easier for a while. While they are playing their fourth straight home game, next week they head to California, then start a streak of six straight games against ranked teams: Colorado, Washington, Washington State, Utah, UCLA, and Oregon.
Trojans Offensive Power House
Lincoln Riley and his USC Trojans are an offensive powerhouse to start the 2023 season. The Trojans are the top scoring team in all of College Football. USC is throwing for just shy of 400 yards per game and adding an additional 185 per game on the ground.
Caleb Williams is the front-runner for the 2023 Heisman. Tahj Washington has three touchdown receptions, while MarShawn Lloyd has two on the ground.
All systems go for the USC Trojans. But, their wins have been against three average to below-average teams: in San Jose State, Nevada, and Stanford. While that will not change this week at Arizona State, they will be challenged next week at Colorado.
Later in the season, the Trojans have five out of six games against Notre Dame, Utah, Washington, Oregon, and UCLA. All five teams are ranked inside the Top 22.
USC actually has three guys with 100+ yards on the ground. Austin Jones and Quieten Jones both have 14 carries for 100+ yards. Jones leads the team with three rushing touchdowns.
Brenden Rice is tied with Tahj Washington with three receiving touchdowns. The Trojans have six guys with 100+ yards so far.
Trojans Smack Sun Devils
This game is not going to go well for the home team. The Arizona State Sun Devils are really struggling. Now, they are down to their third string quarterback. Going up against the USC Trojans with little to no offense is not a good idea.
