Tuesday Baseball: Boston Red Sox at Washington Nationals

Life is great for the Red Sox right now, as they are winning almost every series they are playing in, and few teams have been able to slow them down. The Yankees took two of three from them but they bounced back to knock off the Nats in game 1 last night.

After a slow start to the year, Washington rebounded but they have gone cold again. Now just a mere one game over .500, things are looking bleak and bad for them. A lot is to be desired from this squad, who cannot seem to beat anyone. The Red Sox and Nationals are -110 in this game.

Boston Red Sox

This has been a pretty perfect year for the Red Sox. They have avoided major injuries, are dominating their opponents pitching, and are winning consistently. Mookie Betts and JD Martinez have both been absolutely unstoppable this year, both hitting well over .300 and going yard constantly. They cut Hanley Ramirez earlier in the year, a move which has had no negative repercussions. Their starting pitching has also been phenomenal this year, as they have three pitchers with 9+ wins already. And, none of them are named Chris Sale. They have a great rotation and one of baseball’s best closers to support an elite offense.

Start number three is coming tonight for Brian Johnson. A guy who has mostly been a reliever, he has been a decent starting pitcher. He went four innings against the Angels in his last start, allowing one run on three hits.

Washington Nationals

Aside from rookie star Juan Soto, nobody has been playing very well for the Nationals of late. Bryce Harper’s average is poor, Daniel Murphy has been awful in his return, and Max Scherzer has been getting ZERO run support of late. Injuries have definitely hurt this team, but are not to blame for their lack of success. Honestly speaking, had they kept Dusty Baker around after last year instead of seeking a replacement, we may be seeing a better team.

It has been a rough year for Tanner Roark. He has gone 3-9 in his prior 17 seventeen starts, posting a 4.10 ERA. He has struck out 84 batters while walking 36 in 98 2/3 innings of work. The run support has not been there for him. In his last start, he allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits in six innings of work against the Phillies.

Nationals get the win, upset Boston

In a time where they need to start getting back on track and not let the NL East get out of control, Washington will earn a victory tonight.

Tanner Roark will shut down the Sox, allowing just three hits and one run in seven innings of work, while Juan Soto and Bryce Harper both go deep off of Brian Johnson. Trea Turner will also nab a few bases to help get into scoring position without the team having to waste outs on the sacrifice. The Washington Nationals are our betting pick.
