Sunday Night Baseball: Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees will wrap up their four-game series on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. Not much has gone right for the Yankees in this series, and they are in danger of getting swept by their rivals. The Yankees will try to salvage the series finale, and keep their division hopes alive.

This series features two of the best offenses in baseball, but the Yankees haven’t been able to keep up this weekend. Boston has taken complete control of the American League East, and still have the best record in all of baseball. The Yankees still have a chance to catch the Red Sox, but a win on Sunday is a must. The Red Sox are -131 over the Yankees on Sunday night.

Boston Offense Flying High

The Boston Red Sox are the highest scoring team in Major League Baseball and have dominated Yankees pitching this season. The Red Sox lead the Major Leagues in both runs scored and team batting average, and show no signs of slowing down. Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez lead the high powered offense and are both real candidates to win the American League Most Valuable Player Award.

Veteran David Price will make the start for Boston in the series finale on Sunday. The former Tampa Bay Rays ace has had an up and down career with Boston but has been solid in 2018. The lefty is 11-6 with a 3.97 earned run average for the Red Sox. The Yankees lit up Price in his last start against him, but the lefty will look to rebound on Sunday night.

Yanks Set Sights on Wild Card

The New York Yankees had their sights set on the American League East crown this season, but it appears that they will fall short. The Yankees are now 8.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox, and must now turn to the American League Wild Card. The Yankees hold a slim four-game lead over the rest of the American League for the top Wild Card spot, but they must end their recent skid if they want to retain this lead.

The Yankees are dealing with a plethora of injuries and it is hurting their play on the field. The New York offense is without both Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez, taking away two of the best sluggers in the American League. The Yankees must find a way to get back to scoring runs if they are going to hold onto the top Wild Card spot in the American League.

Red Sox Stay Hot, Sweep Yankees

This has been a miserable weekend for the Yankees, and things won’t get any easier for them on Sunday night. The Red Sox offense is on fire, and they have a veteran pitcher ready to lead them to a sweep. Boston would love nothing more than to sweep their bitter rivals in a four-game weekend series at home. Look for David Price and the Red Sox -131 to complete the sweep over the Yankees on Sunday night.
