Boston Red Sox

This has been a pretty perfect year for the Red Sox. They have avoided major injuries, are dominating their opponents pitching, and are winning consistently. Mookie Betts and JD Martinez have both been absolutely unstoppable this year, both hitting well over .300 and going yard constantly. They cut Hanley Ramirez earlier in the year, a move which has had no negative repercussions. Their starting pitching has also been phenomenal this year, as they have three pitchers with 9+ wins already. And, none of them are named Chris Sale. They have a great rotation and one of baseball’s best closers to support an elite offense.

David Price will take the mound for his seventeenth start of the season, as he ties last year’s start total. He has gone 9-5, posting a 3.66 ERA in 93 1/3 innings of work. He has struck out 89 and walked 33. In his last start against the Angels, he allowed one run on five hits, over six innings of work.

New York Yankees

So far so good. Though they don’t have any .300 hitters, the Yankees have five players who have driven in thirty-six runs or more this year. The offensive output has been fantastic, as has the starting pitching, led by Luis Severino. The addition of Giancarlo Stanton has made their lineup as dangerous as ever, alongside Aaron Judge and Didi Gregorious. The one issue they have to worry about now, is the recent injury to Gary Sanchez. In his absence, they will need Austin Romine to step ups game up.

Life is good for this Yankees team, though they could really use this win tonight, following their humiliation a day ago.

Luis Severino will take the mound for his eighteenth start of the season. Thus far, he has gone 11-2, posting a 2.10 ERA. In 111 2/3 innings of work, he has struck out 132 batters, while walking just 26. In his last start, he struck out nine batters in seven innings of six-hit ball.

Yankees take the rubber game, move back into first

The race to the top of the AL East has been back and forth all year long. Today, the battle will be won by the Yankees, led by yet another strong start from Luis Severino.

Severino has looked like an AL Cy Young favorite this year, as there is no other pitcher the team they’d rather have on the mound. Both Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge will go deep off of David Price. Bet on the New York Yankees -190 over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday Night Baseball.
