Subway Series Finale: New York Mets vs. New York Yankees

The bitter rivals, New York Yankees and New York Mets, will be finishing up their three game weekend series on Sunday night. The Mets will be playing at home in beautiful Citi Field. The Mets will be trying to win their first game of this series, after dropping game one, 4-1, and losing on Saturday, 4-3.

The Yankees have vaulted into first place in the AL East Division, taking over the top spot from the Boston Red Sox. The Mets are currently 8.5 games back of the Washington Nationals in the NL East Division, and are sitting in 4th place. The New York Yankees are -230 over the Mets in the series finale.

Lugo Filling in For Mets

The Mets can’t seem to keep their starting pitchers healthy, and will turn to Seth Lugo for the start on Sunday night. Lugo will be making his second start of the season, and is just 1-1 with a 2.04 ERA so far in 2018. Lugo is being put in a tough position trying to face the Yankees lineup, but the Mets are hoping for a solid five innings from the right hander.

The Mets are still without All-Star, Yoenis Cespedes, who has been on the disabled list with a hip injury since early May. Asdrubal Cabrera has been the best hitter in the Mets lineup since Cespedes went down. Cabrera leads the Mets in all three triple crown categories, and had a home run and two RBI’s in the Mets’ game two loss.

Yankees Feature Potent Lineup

The New York Yankees are the second highest scoring team in baseball, and continue to use the home run ball to win games. On Saturday night, Aaron Judge put the Yankees ahead for good with a solo home run in the 7th inning. Judge leads the Yankees with 18 home runs and 45 runs batted in on the season.

Luis Severino will start on Sunday night for the Yankees, and will be looking to continue his great start to the 2018 season. Severino will be looking for his 10th win to go along with just one loss, and is looking like a lock for the All-Star game in July. Severino should be able to blow through a depleted, and struggling, Mets lineup.

Yankees Win, Sweep Mets

The New York Mets appear to be in a free-fall, and aren’t even close to being able to compete with the Yankees. The Mets can’t keep their best players on the field, and simply don’t have the talent to compete in their division. The Mets need to find a way to get their top players back on the field to have any chance at a Wild Card berth in the National League.

The Yankees are 9-1 in their past 10 games and have now surpassed their most hated rival, the Boston Red Sox. New York continues to pound the baseball and feature a lineup that strikes fear in opposing pitchers. Look for the Yankees offense to carry them on Sunday Night Baseball to a 3 game sweep of their intercity rival. Bet the New York Yankees -230 over the Mets in the series finale.
