Seattle Mariners vs New York Yankees Betting Preview

Things got ugly during Tuesday’s series opener between the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners, with the Bronx Bombers winning 12-1 on the road. The Mariners will get their shot at redemption on Wednesday, although the Yankees are road favorites with a moneyline of -125. Meanwhile, Seattle’s moneyline is set at +105.

Despite Tuesday’s lopsided loss, the Mariners have been one of the best teams in baseball over the last few weeks. They’ve won 14 of their last 20 games, climbing four games over .500 and putting them on the periphery of the playoff race. As it stands, Seattle is just 3.5 games out of a Wild Card spot.

The Yankees are actually 4.5 games out of a Wild Card spot and just two games over .500. They are also just 3-7 over their last 10 games, dating back to a sweep at the hands of rivals Boston Red Sox. However, they’ve at least won two in a row after taking the second half of a doubleheader on Sunday and crushing Seattle on Tuesday.

It’s Go Time

Domingo German will get his chance to start for the Yankees on Wednesday. He will try to put a dreadful month of June behind him, as German went 0-2 with a 7.27 ERA during his six starts last month. Those six starts have caused his ERA for the season to jump from 3.06 to 4.50, in part because German has failed to complete five innings in four consecutive starts.

On Wednesday, he’ll be facing a Seattle lineup that has turned things around over the last 20 games, averaging 4.9 runs per game during that stretch. It’s no longer just about hoping that Mitch Haniger has a big night. J.P. Crawford has served as a catalyst for Seattle’s success in recent weeks, with Jake Fraley, Ty France, and Kyle Seager giving the Mariners a little more depth than they had early in the season.

Mr. All-Star

Seattle’s all-star selection Yusei Kikuchi will start on Wednesday against the Yankees. In his 15 starts this season, the lefty is 6-3 with a 3.18 ERA. He’s improved over the course of the season, posting a 1.90 ERA in June and tossing seven strong innings while allowing just one run against the Toronto Blue Jays in his first start of July.

Of course, the Bronx Bombers have the confidence of a team that scored 12 runs on Tuesday night. With that, the Yankees are now averaging 7.2 runs per game over their last six games, as Aaron Judge has been getting a little support from Giancarlo Stanton and Luke Voit, who had five hits on Tuesday. On the other hand, there are still holes in the New York lineup with Miguel Andujar, Gleyber Torres, and Gary Sanchez going through slumps.

The Magical Mariner Tour

While the Yankees won the series opener in convincing fashion, New York’s level of consistency has been anything but convincing lately. Kikuchi has a better chance of slowing down the Yankees than German has of turning around a suddenly formidable Seattle lineup.

Bet on the Seattle Mariners as home underdogs to beat the New York Yankees on Wednesday.
