Preseason Football: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Green Bay Packers

The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Green Bay Packers for the NFL Preseason finale on Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium. It doesn’t appear that either team will be playing their starters in this game, but there are still plenty of things to watch for. Both teams are trying to figure out who will be the backup quarterback heading into the regular season.

The Green Bay Packers are 2-1 this preseason, having defeated the Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers before losing to the Oakland Raiders. The Kansas City Chiefs have lost to the Houston Texans and Chicago Bears this preseason, and have beaten the Atlanta Falcons. The Chiefs are a -4.0 favorite for this matchup with the Packers.

Boyle To Start For Packers

The Green Bay Packers will give Tim Boyle the start at quarterback in this game. Boyle will likely be playing for his spot on the Packers 53 man roster as a backup to both Aaron Rodgers and DeShone Kizer. Boyle will not have very many weapons on the field with him in this contest but has shown some talent throughout the preseason.

The Packers need to continue to show improvement on the defensive side of the football. Green Bay has given up over 21 points per game so far this postseason, and has had trouble with giving up big plays in the first three games. The Packers face a tough challenge in this game, as Andy Reid’s offense is complex and hard to defend.

Chiefs Have Trio Of Quarterback Options

The Kansas City Chiefs have yet to decide which quarterback will backup projected starter Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs are expected to play Chad Henne, Matt McGloin, and Chase Litton is this game in hopes of figuring out their 53 man roster. Henne and McGloin have plenty of NFL experience and should be able to pick apart the Green Bay defense.

Andy Reid has a track record of winning the final preseason game, and that should factor into the outcome. Reid is 4-1 in his last five preseason finales and prefers that his team looks sharp heading into the season opener. The Chiefs have had sustained success for the last several seasons, and Reid’s system is proven for success in the NFL.

Chiefs Close Out Preseason With Victory

The Packers just recently signed Aaron Rodgers to a four-year contract extension, but the All-Pro quarterback won’t see action in this game. The big question mark is still in the Packers defense, and they must play better in this game. Green Bay can put up a ton of points but must prove they can stop the opposition.

The fact that the Chiefs still have competition at the backup quarterback position gives them an edge in this game. While the Packers don’t have many roster spots up for grabs, the Kansas City team will have something to play for. Look for the Chiefs to beat an uninspired Packers team in this game. Bet the Chiefs -4.0 over the Packers.
