NL West Battle: Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks

Everything came together when it needed to, and it looks like the Dodgers will hopefully end up as division champions in the NL West. They are just half-a-game up on the Rockies, and the two teams will probably be neck-in-neck till the end.

Unfortunately for the DBacks, they struggled down the stretch of the season. They lost too many games in the last few months, as they could not keep it together.

Los Angeles Dodgers

They have been one of the hotter teams in recent weeks, and the Dodgers should be playoff bound. Justin Turner has been phenomenal since his return, while David Freese has been swinging it well since his call-up. Manny Machado is starting to re-discover how powerful swing, while guys are crushing home runs left and right.

Clayton Kershaw has been looking very good while healthy, and the rotation is looking to keep it going. A lot can still happen to take the Dodgers from the division lead to the second wild-card spot. They need their A game.

They will send Ross Stripling to the mound for his 21st start (33rd appearance) of the season. He has been a bright spot from the start, proving to be consistent. In 120 1/3 innings, he has struck out 134 batters while walking only 20. He has posted an 8-5 record with a 2.84 ERA.

He has gone only three and a third innings in each of his last three starts and gone 5+ innings just once since the All-Star Break, but with the stakes high, he has to be ready to go longer.

Arizona Diamondbacks

With their playoff hopes now diminished, they can try and take solace in looking to knock the Dodgers from the playoff race. Paul Goldschmidt started the year horrendously, but is now batting .291 and will be locked and loaded at the start of 2018. David Peralta had another very impressive season, and the DBacks have been hitting .235 as a team. Though they are just two games over .500, they have outscored their opponents by 45 runs.

They will send Zack Greinke to the mound for his 33rd, and likely final start of the season. He has gone 14-11, posting a 3.21 ERA in 201 2/3 innings of work. He has struck out 193 batters while walking only 41. He allowed three runs on four hits in seven and a third innings against the Rockies, striking out six while walking two.

Greinke and the DBacks stall the Dodgers, earn a win

A good game for Arizona, as Zack Greinke, fires seven strong innings to carry his team to their 81st victory and away from a possible losing season.

Ross Stripling is not going to be able to make it to the sixth inning, and the bullpen cannot do it alone. The Dodgers need to bounce back in their final series of the season.
