New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview

The second game of the series between NL East foes is set to go down as the Mets and Phillies get together in Philly. And all seemed to be good for the Mets in the opener until the eighth inning came around, where they allowed five runs, ultimately resulting in a 5-3 defeat. Yikes.

For the Mets, it had to be nice to get on the field after having a bit of a wait due to the COVID scare in the Nationals organization. Washington isn’t playing until Wednesday, where they will face the Braves for a doubleheader of two seven-inning games. There are some high expectations for New York in 2021, and if everything can come together as they hope, they could meet them.

Philadelphia has been a bit of a letdown for the last few years, missing the playoffs despite a lot of talent. Like the Nats, perhaps they deserve a bit of a pass for last year?

At 19-31 in 2019, Washington pretty much ran the table, going all the way to the World Series and winning. The Phillies started slow but didn’t have an opportunity to dig themselves out of the presumptive hole.

At 4-0 to open 2021, things may finally be looking up. In the third year of Bryce Harper, the experience might finally be getting sweet.

ODDS:

The moneyline is favoring the Mets at -139. Philly is the underdog at +115. The over/under is set at eight runs.

Stroman Seeks Win

Making his first start since 2019, it will be great to see Marcus Stroman back on the mound. The last time he pitched an entire season, he was an All-Star in 2019. He posted a 6-11 record in Toronto but kept his ERA under 3.00, firing 124 2/3 strong innings before going over to the Mets.

And after not pitching in 2020, Stroman is back and hoping to make a significant impact on the game. With the Mets favored, experts believe having him on the mound is a legitimate key to victory. You love to see it.

Anderson Looking for Bounce Back

Since posting a 12-4 record with a 2.77 ERA over 141 1/3 innings in 2017, things have not been hunky-dory for Chase Anderson. And after going 1-2 with a 7.22 ERA across his ten starts in Arizona last year, the market seemed to shrink a bit. The Phillies opted to give him a chance, and here he is.

In those ten starts, Anderson lasted a total of 33 2/3 innings. He struck out 38 while walking 10, and that ratio might have been the only good thing about his performance. On average, he gave up one home run per three innings, a sign that he just had no sense of his control.

This matchup features two pitchers with 2020s to forget. One didn’t bring their A-game, and the other just wasn’t there.

With Stroman back, the Mets will find their mojo. The first victory of the season for NY!
