New York Giants at Washington Commanders Betting Preview

New York Giants at Washington Commanders Betting Preview

After four quarters and an overtime couldn’t settle the rivalry just a couple of weeks ago, the New York Giants (7-5-1) and Washington Commanders (7-5-1) will square off again Sunday night. The Commanders will host this one at FedEx Field, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 pm ET.

Their matchup a couple of weeks ago finished in a 20-20 tie. For Washington, Taylor Heinicke threw for 275 yards and two scores in the tie, while Daniel Jones threw for 200 yards and a touchdown for New York.

Last week, the Giants will also look to bounce back from their game last week, when they were clobbered 48-22 by the Philadelphia Eagles on their own field.

For Washington, they enjoyed a bye week, so they should come into this one both fresh and hungry with the tie still in their minds.

Washington is the favorite in this one playing at home. They are -210 to win, while the Giants’ moneyline sits at +176. The spread features New York +4.5 (-112), and the over/under for total points is 40.5.

Giants Want To Hang Onto Playoff Spot

The NFC East has the unusual scenario where every team would be in the playoffs if the season ended last week. With both the Commanders and the Giants at 7-5-1, they are trying to hold off the Seahawks (7-7) and Lions (6-7) as the season winds down.

For the Giants, they will look to build on their 3-2 road record and pick up their first win since November 13, when they beat the Texans 24-16 at home.

Leading the offense under center is quarterback Daniel Jones. This season, he has thrown for 2,534 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He has been even more lethal with his legs, rushing for 548 yards and another five scores.

The biggest weapon for the Giants on the ground is running back Saquon Barkley. In 13 games, he has rushed for 1,083 yards and eight touchdowns. He also has 42 receptions for 261 yards.

As a whole, the offense for New York ranks 20th, averaging 20.5 points per game. Defensively, they also rank 20th, allowing opponents 23.1 points per contest.

Washington Looks To Move Over .500 At Home

To date, Washington has been a better team on the road (4-2) than at home (3-3). On Sunday, they will look to move above .500 at home during this primetime matchup.

The Commanders will really rely on their defense to put them in a good position to win. They currently rank 10th in scoring defense, allowing 19.7 points per game. Against the run, Washington ranks ninth overall, allowing 110.4 yards per game.

On the offensive side, it will be Taylor Heinicke under center for the Commanders. In seven games this season, he has thrown for 1,444 yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions.

His favorite target to this point has been Terry McLaurin. The wide receiver has 62 receptions for 945 yards and three touchdowns.

On the ground, it is Brian Robinson Jr leading the way. He has rushed 147 times for 563 yards and two touchdowns over nine games.

As a whole, the Commanders’ offense ranks just 25th in the NFL, averaging 19.5 points per game.

Take New York And The Points

These teams are undeniably pretty evenly matched. There might not be any greater evidence of this than the fact that they tied in their last matchup.

Overall, the Giants have a stronger run game, but their passing attack is going to have to show up if they hope to take down Washington.

On the flip side, the Commanders have a more balanced offense and a better defense, but they have to keep Heinicke upright, as he was sacked five times by the Giants in their last matchup.

Overall, with these teams so evenly matched, don’t be surprised if it is close coming down to the wire again.

For that reason, take the points. In this case, that means taking New York +4.5 (-112).
