We have one of the top college basketball games of the day for a mid-major conference as the New Mexico Lobos will take on the San Jose State Spartans. New Mexico comes into this one at 19-7 overall and 6-7 in the Mountain West. They have, however, lost four games in a row.
This could be something to watch out for here as San Jose State is going to hope to win their third straight game and improve their record to 17-10 and 8-6 in the Mountain West.

Can New Mexico State Bounce Back?
When looking at what New Mexico has done this season, it’s easy to see why people do believe that they should be much better than they have been throughout their past four games. They’ve had a rough stretch losing to Utah State, Nevada, Air Force, and Wyoming. Those are all teams that they should have been able to take care of business against, but things do happen in college basketball and that’s what we have to realize here.
Despite two of those teams being two of the worst in the Mountain West, this New Mexico team is still legit and that’s been proven by some of their wins throughout the year. They took on San Jose State during the middle of January and were able to come away with a 77-57 win.
If they can come out and replicate what they did on the defensive side of the basketball in that one, they will find success here. Furthermore, they also had two players score 20 points and another scored 17 in that huge win.
Biggest Game of the Season for San Jose State
San Jose State comes into this one playing excellent basketball recently with wins over UNLV and Utah State. Their wins haven’t been as impressive as a team like New Mexico throughout the year, but they’ve beaten some high-level opponents this season.
Although they sit at just 7-6 in the conference, they do have a legitimate chance of being better, and that can all rely on their final four games of the season. This is a very winnable game for San Jose State if they come out here and do what they can do offensively. When this team is at its best, they’re scoring 70-plus points per game.
New Mexico Lobos vs San Jose Spartans Prediction
Due to this game being played at San Jose State, taking the home team certainly isn’t a bad idea in this game. However, it might not be a bad time to jump on New Mexico here because they have lost four in a row, and we all know that this team is much better than they’re currently playing.
Furthermore, they’ve been decent on the road this season at 4-4, showing to be a .500 team. That’s much better than a lot of other teams in college basketball and certainly something to keep in the back of our minds.
San Jose State is 10-2 on their home court and that’s why the line is currently the way that it is. However, leaning towards New Mexico for +100 odds doesn’t seem like a bad idea on this one.
