The 2021 NBA Playoffs have been awesome. That might be a generic word, but it is absolutely truthful to the fullest extent. There is not a better way to describe the amazingness that has ensued inside crowded arenas every single night. Young stars have transformed into young superstars, while massive upsets have also taken place.
And the best part is, so much more is still going to happen. The conference finals get underway this week, and the roof will be blown off.
Three Game 7’s
Already, we have learned to expect the unexpected. Road teams won a pair of game 7’s in the second round, while the home team delivered in the first. And all of these matchups have been pure excitement, just what you would expect in a win or go home game for the sides involved.
The Atlanta Hawks went to Wells Fargo Center and came out a victor. They not only won that one but two other games in the building. Against a hostile crowd. With Trae Young being cursed out for the entire game. And the building where the 76ers had the best record over the past couple of seasons.
The Bucks were able to exact revenge on the Nets, taking them out in seven games. They lost before the finals each of the prior two seasons, but not this time. Yes, Brooklyn was without Kyrie, and Harden was limited. But still, a win is a win. KD was the hottest man on the planet, and they beat his team.
And dating back to round one, the Clippers won a home game 7 against Dallas, after the road team had been 6-0 in the series.
Trae Young and Devin Booker are Putting the League on Notice
Everybody knows that Devin Booker is a dominant force on the floor. But to do it in the playoffs on the biggest stage is another story. He lit up the Lakers. He fried the Nuggets. And in the first game against the Clippers, his scoring ability proved to be otherworldly as he put up a 40-point triple-double to lead his team.
With Chris Paul not in the lineup, DBook still continued on as if the onus fell only on him. And that helped him to put up a stat line good enough to lift his team in a tight contest.
Trae had five double-doubles in the series against Philly. He became the first player since Tim Hardaway in 1991 to have 25+ points and 18+ assists in a postseason game. He also scored at least 20 points in every game in round two, logging 40+ minutes in the final four.
Both of these guys have tall tasks in advancing their teams to the NBA Finals, but what they have done this year has been unbelievable. And in the playoffs, they have truly elevated their games to a higher level.
It is important to remember that Trae is only 22 years of age. He won’t turn 23 until September. And he is already a playoff legend. Nobody has been like this at his age since LeBron James.
