Monday Night Football: Los Angeles Rams at Oakland Raiders

Unlike their opponents, very little has changed for LA since last year. Their division-winning team which had a breakout campaign is ready for some continued success. Gurley and Goff return, as does the young Sean McVay.

New coach, no Mack, healthy Carr. A lot will be different about the Raiders this season. As they round out their time before the move to Vegas, there are a lot of questions about this team.

Los Angeles Rams

Jared Goff certainly played like the #1 pick he was in 2016 last season. Free from Jeff Fisher’s clutches, he had the keys to the offense, and he was brilliant. He had a great connection with all of his receivers, visibly evident from day one. They lost Sammy Watkins, but this shouldn’t have much of a negative impact. They paid up for Aaron Donald, a move they will not regret while upgrading an already impressive secondary. Gurley is a likely MVP candidate too, and all this said, they are likely to repeat as division champs. FEAR LA.

The most likely outcome for their offense in this game is a big day on the ground for Gurley as he tops 125 yards. Goff will throw for over 275 yards and a pair of scores. They will not miss Sammy Watkins one bit, as Cooper Kupp steps up the plate as his replacement. Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh will present major problems up front.

Oakland Raiders

This is a very interesting team, who has a hard record to predict. They made many changes, seemingly bringing in a lot of older players, and guys that Jon Gruden favored in his time as a broadcaster. They got rid of their kicker, Georgio Tavecchio, and their Pro Bowl punter Marquette King. The move to cut their kicker was very silly looking at how he did last year, but I’m also not the head coach. Jordy Nelson comes to town to try to replace Michael Crabtree as the #2 wide receiver.

The most likely outcome for them is a decent performance from Derek Carr, who will, unfortunately, toss a few interceptions. The Rams secondary is very dangerous, and the pass rush will bring an immense amount of pressure. Beast Mode will get off to a strong start this year, going for over 100 yards, and rewarding the fantasy owners who trusted him in a loaded market.

Rams start the year with a win over Gruden’s Raiders

Sorry Jon Gruden, but this will not be a triumphant return to coaching. It will be a long night for the Raiders in their home debut, as the Rams take complete advantage of them.

275 yards and a pair of TD’s for Goff will help to lead the way, while the defense will record three sacks and really make Carr feel their presence.

The Rams defense is a must-own for this matchup, fantasy players.
