MLB Betting Preview: Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox

Toronto has had an extremely down year, but they did get the job done at Fenway last night in the second game of this series. It is already a given that they won’t be making the postseason this year, so the least they can do is give some trouble to all of the teams within the AL East. They and the Orioles will be in prime position to play spoiler for the rest of the season.

It was surprising to see Boston get so badly destroyed last night and to see new addition Andrew Cashner struggle like he did. They have not been anything close to the team that won the World Series a year ago but are still a group with an immense amount of talent. They have a chance to get a Wild Card spot, but it is not going to be easy.

The moneyline for this contest has the Toronto Blue Jays +210 and the Boston Red Sox -245. The over/under has been set at 1.5.

Rough Year

You know you aren’t having a great campaign when Eric Sogard is the only player in your lineup that is hitting with any consistency. Freddy Galvis is leading with 46 RBI, with Randal Grichuk next on the list with 42. The one thing that still makes this team watchable every night is the fact that they have the sons of both Vlad Guerrero and Craig Biggio. Vlad Jr. has struggled at times this year, but he has a crazy amount of potential to go down as a superstar in this league. The records of all of their starting pitchers are as bad as any team in the majors, too.

Aaron Sanchez will be taking the mound for his 21st start of the year. The 26-year-old has posted a 3-13 record with a 6.22 ERA in 97 innings of work. He has 79 strikeouts to his 58 walks. Can he finally pick up a win, with a quality start?

Not So Easy

Xander Bogaerts has been the best hitting Red Sox player this year with 20 deep balls and 72 RBI. Rafael Devers is batting .326 with 17 home runs and 66 RBI. They have JD Martinez and Mookie Betts in the lineup to crush the ball at any given time. While the wins have not been coming in as consistently as they like them, the talent is there, and they do have time to turn it around. They are going to need to fix the bullpen if they want an opportunity to get to the WS again, or even the playoffs.

Eduardo Rodriguez gets his 20th start of the season tonight. He has gone 10-4 with a 4.43 ERA in 109 2/3 innings of work. He has 116 strikeouts to 34 walks on the season. He leads his team in wins this year.

Toronto Picks Up Another Surprising Win

Make sure you pick Toronto tonight, as they will get to 36-60 on the year. A rare victory for Aaron Sanchez out there tonight will help them to the win!
