MLB Betting Preview: New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox

There has not been too much to complain about with these Yankees, as they are currently sitting 28 games over .500. But they have been torn to shreds by the Red Sox in this series, their pitching completely failing to show up on game days. They have been outscored 37-13 in the first three games of the series and will be hoping that they can avoid the sweep under the lights on Sunday Night Baseball this evening.

The Red Sox, on the other hand, may have finally found their mojo. They have been treading water for the past two months after a poor start to the year, and they now find themselves 12 games over .500. The A’s, Indians, and Rays will push for the Wild Card spots, and locking into one of them will not be easy for the Sox. But against their divisional rivals, they have shown no mercy and have been tearing it up.

The moneyline on the Yankees is at +155, while it is -180 for the Red Sox.

Yankees Trying To Avoid Sweep

Being outscored by 24 runs over a three-game stretch requires many things to go wrong. They allowed 19 runs in the first game, followed by 10, then nine. They have not been able to keep the ball in the park. New York has allowed 77 runs over the past week, an unprecedented one-week total. They have missed DJ LeMahieu’s bat in this series, along with those of Gary Sanchez and Brett Gardner. But they really cannot make too many excuses, considering they have gone the entire season dealing with an excessive number of injuries and kept up the wins.

Team wins leader Domingo German (12-2) will be making his 17th start of the year for the Bronx Bombers tonight. He has struck out 98 batters while walking 23 in 91 2/3 innings of work, posting a 4.03 ERA.

Sweep Within Reach

The depth of the lineup here is ridiculous. The fact they can add 23-year-old Michael Chavis to their list of productive hitters only makes them more dangerous. Rafael Devers is just 22 years old, batting .329 with 21 HRs and 82 RBI. Six players have 47+ RBI in this lineup, one that is capable of being as lethal as any in the league. Their bullpen has been their pitfall in 2019, and they hope to shore that up during this week’s trade deadline. The decision not to bring Kimbrel back has not seemed to be the smartest one.

They will be sending their ace Chris Sale to the mound tonight. His record (5-9) is not very good, but he’s struck out 182 batters while walking just 32, posting a 4.00 ERA in 123 2/3 innings of work. He has been much better of late.

Boston Completes The Sweep

Yikes. A four-game sweep at the hands of the Red Sox is not what the Yankees expected, but it’s happening. 10 K’s over seven strong for Sale will lead Boston to the W!
