MLB Betting: Friday Night Baseball: Dodgers @ Mets

The Los Angeles Dodgers visit Citi Field on Friday Night to take on the New York Mets. First pitch is at 6:10 pm central time. The Dodgers are competing for the top spot of their division, as they are in second place. They sit 2 and a half games behind the first place Diamondbacks. In the Mets’ case, they are in a much different situation. They are far away from contending, sitting in fourth place in the National League East division, 11 and a half games behind the Braves. This win will be wanted by both teams, but needed more by the Dodgers.

Both pitchers in this matchup have been struggling as of late. Alex Wood will be on the mound for the Dodgers. The lefty is 2-5, and has a 4.22 ERA. Meanwhile, for the Mets, Zack Wheeler will get the starting nod. Wheeler is also 2-5, and has a 4.82 ERA. The Dodgers are favored in this matchup: at -155.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers have been playing well, but are relying heavily on one player. Matt Kemp is having a great year. The outfielder is batting .322 so far this season. He has also driven in 43 runs, and has 12 home runs as well. While he is playing very well, the fact that he is relied on so heavily is a problem.

Chris Taylor has been producing runs as well. He has driven in 27 runs and scored 46 runs himself as well. He is also batting .249, indicating good, but not great, plate discipline. Look for these two guys to be big factors in this game. The Dodgers have been counting on these guys (Especially Kemp) all season, and don’t expect that to change for this game.

New York Mets

Although the team is not performing well as a whole, Brandon Nimmo has been providing a lot of the offense for the Mets. He is hitting .282, and has driven in 25 runs. Asdrubal Cabrera has also been playing well, as he is hitting .277 with 41 runs driven in (and scored 34 runs himself. He also has 12 home runs. Cabrera has been one of the bigger run producers for this seemingly depleted team that was so good just a few years ago. Look for the Mets to lean heavily on these two, although someone like Amed Rosario or Michael Conforto could be a spark as well.

Dodgers Pummel Mets

The only potential advantage that the Mets have coming into this game is that Wood has been struggling for the Dodgers. The problem with hedging one’s bets on that fact is that Wheeler has been struggling as well. This game, barring a season changing performance from one of those mean, will be a battle of offenses. Look for Matt Kemp to have a big game. The big slugger should be able to hit Wheeler fairly easily, especially if the latter’s stuff isn’t strong. Bet on the Los Angeles Dodgers, at -155
