The Diamondbacks have been playing .500 baseball over the past few weeks, keeping a steady lead atop the NL West. All is well in Arizona, and Torey Lovullo has done a tremendous job with this ball club.
The Rockies on the other hand, have continued to middle around .500, as they remain behind Arizona and LA in the standings. They made it to the Wild Card game a year ago, but they still have a lot of work to be done to get into the postseason. Home runs from Arenado and Story aren’t enough. The Rockies are small favorites in this game.

Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks started the year strong before starting to struggle. Now, they’re back on top and their star Paul Goldschmidt has raised his average up to .817. He is leading the team with 20 HR’s and 51 RBI’s, while David Peralta has continued to show his power, launching 15 home runs. As a team though, they are batting just .231, but their starting pitching has been very good. They have won a number of big games for the DBacks this year. They have a +62-run differential right now, and will need to keep up their pace to end the year atop the West.
They will send Shelby Miller to the mound for just his fourth start of the season. He has allowed five or more earned runs per game in each of his starts this year, as he has struggled to win any games since coming to Arizona. They are going to need a strong start from him so that he can help get this team going.
Colorado Rockies
The Rockies have shown great power in 2018, launching 113 home runs thus far. However, they have been outscored by 27 runs this year, as their pitching has not been able to get it done. Nolan Arenado is in the midst of yet another MVP-caliber campaign, in which he has hit 22 HR’s, driven in 63 runs, and is batting .305. Charlie Blackmon, Ian Desmond, and Trevor Story have all been doing a tremendous job of hitting the long ball. They have got to start improving their pitching, if they want to have any chance at competing for a playoff spot this year, yet.
German Marquez will take the mound for his nineteenth start of the season. Thus far, he has gone 7-8 with a 4.92 ERA. Over his first 18 starts, spanning 97 innings, he has struck out 98 batters while walking 35. He was impressive in his last start against the Mariners, allowing just one run on five hits over six innings.
DBacks take home the W
A good night for the Diamondbacks as they take home another victory. Finally, a night where Shelby Miller and a W in the books.
