Boston Playing Well

The Red Sox are coming off a 3-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics. In the final game on Wednesday, the Red Sox won by a score of 7-3. Hector Velazquez started the game for Boston and went 2 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 3. The bullpen came in and delivered 6 straight scoreless innings before allowing 2 runs in the 9th inning. Mitch Moreland hit another home run in this one and Christian Vazquez hit a solo home run. Rafael Devers went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and Andrew Benintendi went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.

David Price will get the start for Boston. He is 1-2 with a 3.60 ERA in 5 starts this season and has a 1.07 WHIP with 37 strikeouts in 30 innings. Last season, Price went 16-7 with a 3.58 ERA in 30 starts. The Red Sox have faced Giolito just 1 time in his career and he dominated them. They managed just 1 hit over 6 1/3 innings and struck out 8 times. Mookie Betts had the lone hit and earned a walk and Brock Holt also drew a walk.

White Sox Making Ground

The White Sox took 2 out of 3 games from the Orioles in their last series. On Wednesday the 2 teams split a double header. The starting pitching for Chicago combined to give up 8 runs in 9 1/3 innings allowing 14 hits and 4 walks while striking out 11. On the day, the bullpen went 8 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks while striking out 10. Jose Abreu went 4 for 9 on the day with a double and a home run and drove in 6 runs. Tim Anderson went 2 for 4 in the second game and Adam Engel went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.

The White Sox will send out Lucas Giolito to the mound on Thursday. He is 2-1 with a 5.30 ERA in 4 starts so far this year and has a 1.34 WHIP with 23 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings. Last season Giolito struggled and went 10-13 with a 6.13 ERA in 32 starts. The White Sox do not have much experience against David Price other than Jose Abreu. They are hitting .136 in 44 at bats and Jose Abreu has 21 of these at bats. He is 3 for 21 with 2 doubles and a home run and has struck out 4 times. Tim Anderson is 1 for 5, Jon Jay is 1 for 3, and Jose Rondon is 1 for 2.

Boston Downs Chicago

The Red Sox are -193. Boston has been playing better of late and have won 3 straight and 6 of their last 10. The White Sox are also 6-4 in their last 10 but have faced weaker competition. Even though Giolito had a good game against Boston in his only outing against them, he has put up some bad numbers overall in his career. The Red Sox bats have been heating up and I think they will destroy Giolito here. David Price has also been pitching well this season and should be able to shut down the Chicago lineup. Take the Red Sox -193 and -1.5(-130).
