Michigan State Spartans at Ohio State Buckeyes Betting Pick

It has been a solid start to the year for the No. 25 Spartans, who are in for a serious test Saturday against a team that hardly needs to even play its offensive starters into the third quarter these days. A strong defense has played a big role in the 4-1 beginning for Mark D’Antonio’s team, and stopping Justin Fields is going to be priority No. 1 in this one. If they can do that, they have a shot.

The No. 4 Buckeyes have just been so good that it is unfair through five games in 2019. They have allowed only 43 points to be scored across 20 quarters while posting the No. 3 scoring offense in the country simultaneously. This is an absolute monster of an offense, combined with a lockdown defense. In his first full year at the helm, Ryan Day is living every coach’s dream, a perfect start with a team that looks like it will not be slowed down any time soon.

The spread for this game favors the Buckeyes by a whopping 20 points (OSU -20), while the over/under is set at 49.

Spartans Look For An Upset

Quarterback Brian Lewerke has been responsible for Michigan State and its 31.6-ppg offense. He has tossed 10 TD passes to just one pick through five games, completing 59.8 percent of his throws, and compiling 1,325 yards. The running game is still a work in progress, with freshman Elijah Collins (78-413-4, 5.3 ypc) getting the bulk of the carries. This is going to have to be better, as the earlier they can establish Collins as an effective runner, the more play-action they can run. Darrell Stewart Jr. (35-556-3) has been unstoppable thus far and will need to avoid any drops.

Kenny Willekes and Raequan Williams each have 3.5 sacks and will be looking to get some kind of pressure on Fields of OSU. The secondary has six picks, and the team has recovered four fumbles. The defense will ultimately determine if Michigan State will have a fighting chance.

Buckeyes Try To Stay Perfect

The Buckeyes have yet to meet a team that can give them a fight, and the Spartans look to be a real challenge for Ohio State. Vegas thinks little of them, however, as they have this Buckeyes team as 20-point favorites. Justin Fields is completing nearly 70 percent of his passes and has thrown for 1,092 yards and 16 touchdowns without a pick through five games. Five different receivers have recorded multiple TD catches, while JK Dobbins has 654 rushing yards and five scores (7.1 ypc). Also worth noting that Fields has added seven more rushing TDs, giving him 23 total in five games.

Chase Young already has eight sacks on the year and is looking like a potential high draft selection next year. He and Malik Harrison do a lot of bruising up front for OSU.

Buckeyes Win, But Not By Much

It will be a 10- to 14-point victory for Ohio State in this one, as the Spartans battle to keep it close.
