Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres Betting Preview

Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres Betting Preview

Wednesday’s MLB schedule is highlighted for an NL West rivalry game between the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres have won the first two games of the series and will go for the sweep at home on Wednesday. San Diego is also a slight favorite with a moneyline of -115, while the Dodgers have a moneyline of -105.

With wins over Los Angeles on Monday and Tuesday, the Padres have now won six in a row. They’ve become red-hot after struggling during the first half of June. However, they still have plenty of work to do, still trailing the Giants by 4.5 games in the NL West.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers have cooled down considerably in San Diego. They entered the series with ten wins in their last 12 games and had done well to close the gap on San Francisco. But with back-to-back losses, they have fallen three games back of the Giants.

Take a Bauer

Reigning Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer will take the mound on Wednesday, hoping to prevent the sweep. After stifling the Diamondbacks for seven shutout innings in his last start, Bauer is 7-5 with a 2.45 ERA over his first 15 starts of the season. He also made two starts against the Padres in April, allowing three earned runs on eight hits over 12 innings of work, although the Dodgers only won one of those games.

While Bauer has strong career numbers against most of San Diego’s hitters except for Manny Machado, facing the Padres is never easy. During their six-game winning streak, they are averaging 5.5 runs per game. The likes of Machado, Fernando Tatis, and Jake Cronenworth are all raging hot right now, each posting an OPS over 1.200 over the past week.

Hey, Joe

Joe Musgrove will have the opportunity to secure the sweep for the Padres on Wednesday night. While he’s just 4-6 in his first 13 starts of the season, Musgrove owns a 2.28 ERA and threw a no-hitter earlier this season. San Diego is also just 2-2 over the last four games that Musgrove has taken the mound, including a relief appearance.

The good news for Musgrove is that he appears to be catching the Dodgers at the right time. Los Angeles is without injured stars Corey Seager, Cody Bellinger, and Max Muncy and has been held to three runs or less five times in the team’s last eight games. Outside of Justin Turner, no one in the lineup is particularly hot right now, especially with the Dodgers scoring just two runs in each of the first two games of the series.

Bust out the Brooms

It’s never easy to go against the Dodgers, especially with Bauer on the mound. But virtually every hitter in the San Diego lineup is locked in at the plate right now, not to mention Machado’s insanely good career numbers against Bauer. Musgrove is a decent bet to pitch well enough against an undermanned Los Angeles lineup to lead the Padres to a win behind a deep and red-hot lineup.
