Green Bay Packers at New Orleans Saints Betting Preview

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Los Angeles Rams Betting Preview

Week 1 of the NFL season is finally upon us. The Packers and Saints will do battle on Sunday afternoon, the first game of the Jameis Winston era. Drew Brees had been with the Saints for a long time, and it has finally come to an end. But, thanks to the devastating effects of Hurricane Ida, the game will be played in Jacksonville.

Green Bay had something of a tumultuous offseason going, as it took a long time to come to terms with Aaron Rodgers. He’s still angry about how last season ended, it appeared, but they found the deal, and he did return. It is pretty wild to think it has been over a decade since one of the best QB’s of all time has qualified for a Super Bowl.

The Saints team is a bit different with a new QB at the helm, but Brees also missed a lot of time last year. Winston will start, and Taysom Hill will play all over the place on offense. Michael Thomas is nowhere near 100%, but Marquez Calloway is projected to have a dominant year. With Winston now, look for the ball to be slung all over the place.

Betting Odds & Lines

Sunday’s spread is set at GB -3.5. The over/under is 49.5 points. The GB moneyline is -179, while NO’s is +152.

Pack Seek Quick Start

After going 13-3 last year, a 1-0 start is just what the Packers are in search of. That is very doable and is something they will be attempting to do every week. They have had a pair of incredible regular seasons under Matt LaFleur but folded in the playoffs twice. They could easily have won it all last year, if only they could have gotten by the Bucs.

AJ Dillon will have a larger role in the backfield behind Aaron Jones, with Jamaal Williams departing for Detroit. Robert Tonyan will look to continue to be a touchdown machine for his club. And, of course, Davante Adams is trying to remain as one of the best wideouts in the league.

The defense brings immense pressure, and Rodgers will instantly lock-in.

Saints Seek Quick Start

Signing Jameis in the last offseason may have been a move to signal the end of the Brees era. But, waiting a year to throw him out there would allow him all the time to learn the system. Just two years ago, Winston threw for 5,000 yards but had 30 interceptions as well. The 30 TD tosses meant less when paired with all the INT’s.

He’ll be handing the ball to Alvin Kamara often, who is looking to stay hot. He hasn’t had over 1,000 yards in a year yet, but this may well be the one. With Latavius Murray gone, there are even more touches for the star back.

This game is going to come down to the Saints’ defensive line and how much pressure they can apply.

Packers Win Tight Contest

The game will be close, but GB will win. The neutral feel will hurt the Saints, who usually bring an incredible crowd.
