College Football Week 2 Wraps Up with Minor Upsets

The College Football Week 2 came to an end late Saturday night with just four teams in the Top 25 losing. The biggest loss of the night went to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Coach Saban and his team came into the game ranked 3rd in the nation and lost at home to the Texas Longhorns.

Alabama took the lead for just a short period of time in the third quarter, but it was all Texas from there. The win for the Longhorns pushed them to 2-0, and their 11th ranking will certainly improve, as they expect to be inside the Top 10 next week.

Other Week 2 Losses

The other game that featured a pair of ranked teams was the Ole Miss Rebels against the Tulane Green Wave. Lane Kiffin and his 20th-ranked Rebels went to Tulane and smashed them 37-20 on Saturday.

Tulane came into the game ranked 24th in the most recent Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Green Wave will likely get removed from the Top 25 heading into Week 3 of the season.

The 23rd-ranked Texas A+M Aggies are also going to be removed from the Top 25. The Aggies went to Miami and played little to no defense in the game. The Miami Hurricanes looked great and beat the Aggies 48-33. The Hurricanes could be a team that moves into the Top 25 with their back-to-back wins to start the season.

The loss for Texas A+M was a bad one for a team that felt they could get off to a great start and make a push for the top of the SEC.

The final team to get beat inside the Top 25 was the Wisconsin Badgers. The Washington State Cougars looked good and beat the Badgers 31-22 at home. The Badgers tried to make a push in the middle of the game after trailing 24-9 at halftime, but it was not enough, as they went scoreless in the final quarter of the game.

The Washington State Cougars are another threat to move into the new Top 25 rankings. The Pac-12 has gotten off to a great start this season.

On the Ropes

Other ranked teams that were threatened in Week 2 feature the Utah Utes, Tennessee Volunteers, and Oregon Ducks. Utah, who came into the game ranked 12th in the nation, had to use two fourth-quarter touchdowns to win on the road at Baylor.

Utah did not score a touchdown until the final quarter of the game. The win for the Utes moved them to 2-0 with wins over Florida and Baylor.

The Tennessee Volunteers did not look great, but beating Austin Peay 30-13 counts as a win for the 9th-ranked Volunteers. The game was 13-3 at halftime, with a late touchdown right before the half. The Volunteers then led 23-13 in the middle of the fourth before a late touchdown pass from Joe Milton. Tennessee now starts their SEC schedule as they go on the road at the Florida Gators.

The Oregon Ducks and Texas Tech played one of the best games of the day. Tyler Shough, the former Oregon Ducks quarterback, went to Texas Tech and played a great game, but it was not enough to upset the 13th-ranked Oregon Ducks.

Oregon scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to win the game. The game was led by quarterback Bo Nix, with 359 passing yards and two touchdowns in the game.
