College Football Showdown: Texas A&M vs. Clemson

Texas A&M will host Clemson University on Saturday in week two of the college football season. This is a battle of two of the best programs in college football in recent memory and conference bragging rights are on the line. Texas A&M represents the West division in the SEC and Clemson plays in the Atlantic Division in the ACC.

Clemson comes into this game as the number two ranked team in the latest AP Poll. The Tigers defeated Furman 48-7 in the season opener in a game that was not competitive. Texas A&M blew out Northwestern State University after putting up 35 points in the first half in their season opener. The Aggies are a 12 point home underdog in their matchup with Clemson.

Clemson Set To Play Two QB’s

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney announced that he plans to play both Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence at quarterback in the game on Saturday. Kelly Bryant was the starter last season for Clemson, but freshman Trevor Lawrence appears to be the more talented option. Lawrence threw for 137 yards and three touchdowns in his first college game in the season opener. Both quarterbacks have talent, but eventually Clemson will need to settle on just one guy.

The defensive line for Clemson is a force to be reckoned with and is widely considered the best front four in all of football. All four starting linemen have a chance to be a first-round NFL draft pick, and they dominated Furman in week 1. The Clemson defense will face an uptempo Texas A&M offense, but the defensive line should put a ton of pressure on the Aggies quarterback.

Texas A&M Features New Offense

Head coach Jimbo Fisher has brought a new offense to Texas A&M in his first year in College Station. The new offense looked unstoppable in their season opener as they put up 59 points in a rout. Fisher brings a pro-style offense to Texas A&M which is a huge change over the relentless passing attack ran by former coach Kevin Sumlin.

The new offense allowed Aggies running back Trayveon Williams to rush for 240 yards and three touchdowns in week 1. Sophomore quarterback Kellen Mond was also solid last weekend, throwing for 184 yards and two touchdowns. It will be interesting to see how the offense operates against a dominant Clemson defense.

Clemson Wins, Aggies Cover

Jimbo Fisher has a long way to go in getting the Texas A&M program back to the top of the SEC. The Aggies looked solid in the season opener, but Clemson will present a bunch of new challenges. Look for Texas A&M to try to pound the ball in this game in an effort to slow the game down and keep the score close.

Clemson will use this game as another chance to try and pick a starting quarterback. It appears that freshman Trevor Lawrence is the real deal, but he now will play a road game in a hostile environment. The defense of Clemson is too good to lose this game, but the Aggies keep it close. Bet Texas A&M +12.0 in this game.
