Two teams plagued by injuries face off against each other on Tuesday night. To be fair, one team is dealing with much more significant injuries than the other.
The Brooklyn Nets are still without James Harden and Kevin Durant, their two best players. As they head to Phoenix, they’ve already lost four games in a row. Another loss could be detrimental to the Nets going forward.
The Suns have been able to win games despite dealing with multiple injuries. Jae Crowder and Deandre Ayton have both been ruled out for this one. However, the Suns continue to be carried by Devin Booker and Chris Paul.
With those two at the helm, the Suns have been able to string together ten straight wins. They have the best record in the Western Conference at 40-9.
Brooklyn Nets: Overcoming injuries prove to be too challenging
Unfortunately for the Brooklyn Nets, the injuries continue to pile up. The injury bug has now found its way to multiple players on the Nets lineup.
Their four-game losing skid has dropped them to No.6 in the Eastern Conference. If they lose a few more games, they could find themselves all the way back at the No.10 spot. They desperately need to win one tonight.
Unfortunately, the Nets haven’t had much of an offense since Durant was sidelined. Their average of 111.86 points per game has seen a significant decrease.
However, even scoring doesn’t matter since their defense is responsible for most of the losses. Not long ago, the Nets gave up 136 points to the Minnesota Timberwolves. A disaster is brewing in Brooklyn right now.
Phoenix Suns: Devin Booker & CP3 is all they need
It’s not surprising that the Suns are still able to win regardless of injuries. Having Devin Booker and Chris Paul on the court makes a huge difference. They have the No.3 scoring offense in the NBA, averaging 112.86 points per game.
Perhaps even more impressive is their No.7 defense, allowing just 104.96 points per game. Great defense and offense earned them the No.1 spot.
Staying at the top of the Western Conference will be tough with the Warriors on their trail. Although they have an incredible record at 20-9, the Warriors are close behind at 30-13.
The good news is they’re playing a heavily injured Nets team. A win for the Suns here seems imminent, especially since they’re 21-5 at home. The question is, who will cover the spread?
Against the spread: Brooklyn Nets at Phoenix Suns
The Brooklyn Nets come in as +7-point underdogs against the Suns tonight. Over their last seventeen games, the Nets are 5-12.
Over their last five, they have a 2-3 record against the spread. Considering they’ll be without Durant and Harden, we don’t expect them to keep this one close.
It also benefits the Suns that they’ll be playing at home. The Suns have an ATS home record of 12-14. Although that isn’t a good record, they’ve gotten better over the last few weeks.
Through their last nine games, the Suns are 6-3 against the spread. Out of these two teams, the Suns are the much better pick at home -7.
