Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees Betting Preview

Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees Betting Preview

After the New York Yankees swept a doubleheader from the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, the two teams are now even in the AL East standings. Of course, that tie will be broken on Wednesday when the teams meet again for the last time until late September.

Betting odds are tight with Boston’s moneyline at -105 and New York’s moneyline at -115 with the over/under at ten runs.

With the doubleheader sweep on Tuesday, the Yankees have now won five in a row. They also had a five-game winning streak earlier this month, helping to make them 12-3 over their last 15 games. As a result, they are now five games behind the Rays and tied with the Red Sox and the A’s at the top of the Wild Card standings.

As for the Red Sox, they had been in good shape, winning four of their last five games before Tuesday’s doubleheader. On the other hand, they are also 6-10 during the month of August, so they’ve been struggling while the Yankees have gotten hot. However, they are very much in the playoff race if they can get things straightened out.

Little Nicky

Nick Pivetta will be responsible for helping Boston rebound from two losses on Tuesday. He’s put together a solid season, going 9-5 with a 4.20 ERA over 23 starts, as this has been the best season of his career. Plus, his last two starts have been two of his best of the season, as Pivetta has allowed just one run on four hits over his last 12 innings.

However, the Yankees are starting to feel a lot more confident at the plate. They have averaged 5.1 runs per game over their last nine games despite some key figures still missing on the IL.

Aaron Judge and DJ LeMahieu have both caught fire over the past week, while Joey Gallo has hit three home runs in his last seven games despite hitting for a low average.

Was It Worth It?

Trade deadline acquisition Andrew Heaney is set to make his fourth start in pinstripes on Wednesday. Since joining the Yankees, Heaney has allowed 15 runs on 15 hits over 15 innings of work and has been victimized by eight home runs. That’s not exactly a promising sign for a pitcher who’s arguably having his worst season with his ERA up to 5.78.

That being said, Boston’s lineup was stifled on Tuesday and has only had a few quality performances during the month of August. They’ve been held to two runs or less in seven of their 16 games this month, which is surprising for a club that’s one of the best offensive teams in baseball.

On paper, the Red Sox have more than enough quality hitters to get the job done, but they’ve looked a little more vulnerable against quality pitching in recent weeks.

No Momentum

The Yankees appear to have a lot of momentum after sweeping a doubleheader, but not with Heaney on the mound. He could help Boston’s lineup get back on track in a hurry.

With the Yankees still short-handed offensively and the Red Sox desperate, bet on Boston to salvage the series with a win on Wednesday.
