The Iron Man Poker Challenge finished up early this morning in the Delaware Park poker room and in the end it was Peter Konas who earned the first place win. The event took thirty six hours, thirty four minutes and forty one seconds to complete and the tournament had no breaks. The competition was already tough but adding in this factor made it even more difficult.
The tournament only paused when officials decided to chip color up at each table. The event was definitely different and a total of 192 players paid in the $600 buy-in to compete. The total prize pool was worth just over $100,000 and the top eighteen players earned a payout.
By the end of the event, it was Peter Konas of the Czech Republic who earned the title win. Konas earned a prize of $27,160 after defeating Josh Palmer of North Carolina. Palmer was able to earn $16,902 for his second place finish.
The event also took place in 2011 but lasted a shorter time period than this year’s event. The 2011 version lasted just over thirty two hours and was unable to meet the Guinness World Record books criteria. Kevin Castora, the Poker Room Manager, commented that the event must last thirty six hours to be able to meet the criteria for a marathon poker tournament.
The event this past weekend was able to go just over the thirty six hour mark, which means that Delaware Park now holds the record for the event. With the win, Konas will now be able to be in the record books as well for winning the Iron Man Poker Challenge event.
