The second half of the World Poker Tour Season XIV schedule has been announced and there is one major change. The World Poker Tour Championship is no longer listed on the schedule. Instead, the WPT will be replacing this event with the Tournament of Champions. This event will have a buy-in of $15,400 and will be invitation only.
The event will play the role as the finale of the season, and be open to only the members of the World Poker Tour Champions Club and the champions of the Season XIV events. The event is scheduled for the 21st to the 23rd of April in Hollywood, Florida with the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino hosting the event. The Tournament of Champions will take place directly after the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown.
Adam Pliska, the CEO and President of the World Poker Tour, commented on the change by stating that the Tournament of Champions will be a true championship event by combining the members of the WPT Champions Club with the Season XIV winners to end the season. The WPT will be promoting the ‘champion of champions’ to the television views as well as players in the community as the seasons continue to place, creating a spot for the winner’s in the rich history of the World Poker Tour.
The champions of the Season XIV Main Tour will automatically earn an entry into the Tournament of Champions event. Hotel accommodations and airfare will be covered by the WPT. Champions who have won in the past during WPT events will have the option to post the $15,400 buy-in to compete in the event, which will be televised.
Along with the big event, the WPT also announced seven more poker events for the Main Tour schedule. This includes:
- WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open
- WPT Fallsview Poker Classic
- California Swing with the WPT L.A. Poker Classic
- WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star
- WPT Rolling Thunder
