The Women in Poker Hall of Fame will be inducting two new members in 2014 after the Board of Directors, members of the organization and specific media members filled in their ballots on who they would like to see inducted into the organization. After the ballots were tallied, it was Allyn Jaffrey Shulman and Deborah Giardina who will be the newest members of the organization.
Allyn Jaffrey Shulman is a former WSOP champion and seemingly a master of WSOP events. Shulman won the 2012 WSOP Seniors event and has cashed out nine other times in the WSOP. In 2013, she won the Venetian Deepstacks $5000 Championship Event and has earned over $1.25 million during her career.
Not only has Shulman been productive at the felt but she is also productive for the game of poker in general. She has worked in the US with gaming laws and helped with court cases/hearings on the subject of gaming in the US. She also is a strong supporter of women in poker.
The second inductee is Deborah Giardina, an industry professional. It was back in 1990 that Giardina began her career in the gaming industry as a dealer and then progressed just six months later to an assistant manager of a casino in Colorado. She would then continue her career in Mississippi, earning the title of Cardroom Manager at the Grand Casino Gulfport. Then it was off to Louisiana, Minnesota and eventually Las Vegas where she would become the Wynn Las Vegas Director of Poker Operations. Now she has the title of Vice President of Poker Operations in Jacksonville at Bestbet.
The two women are certainly deserving, as well as the inductees who did not make the cut. Jennifer Tilly, Esther Rossi, Ruth Hall, Donna Blevins and Debbie Burkhead were all nominated and it will be interesting to see if they will be considered yet again for the next set of inductions, this time in 2016, as according to Lupe Soto, the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Women in Poker Hall of Fame.
