The best female poker players have been inducted to the Women in Poker Hall of Fame and now JJ Liu and Kathy Raymond join the impressive list. The Women in Poker Hall of Fame was created to honor women in the poker industry who have made great contributions to the game. Women must meet a certain criteria before they can be nominated for the Hall of Fame and this year both Raymond and Liu met the requirements.
The nominees must be at least 35 years of age or older and have remained active in the poker industry for a minimum of ten years. The woman must have played poker or worked in the industry. In 2012, there were ten nominees for the Women in Poker Hall of Fame. Only Raymond and Liu were able to pass the test and be inducted.
JJ Liu has an impressive poker record and earned her spot in the Hall of Fame because she is 7th on the Women’s All Time Money List. Liu has earned just over $2.5 million in her career and she finished runner up in the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars event which makes her the highest finishing female in a WPT event.
Raymond is also a poker player but she was inducted into the Hall of Fame for her contributions to the industry as a professional. Raymond started out as a dealer in the early to mid 90s and then quickly became the director of Foxwoods. Raymond then moved on to the Director of Poker Operations at the Venetian in Las Vegas and she remains there to this day.
Raymond was interviewed about her contributions to the game and she replied: “I believe that the introduction of Deep Stack poker tournaments, which I formally introduced at the Venetian in 2007, changed the industry for the better…I was [also] the first to sign up to be a charter member of the World Poker Tour in 2002. I realized very quickly that televised hole cards would bring a whole new segment of players to the tables.”
Congratulations are in order for both ladies and they will be inducted on August 31st in Las Vegas at the Golden Nugget Casino!
