Day two of the California Poker Players Conference (CPPC) began Sunday, October 21st with a discussion by the Commissioner of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Jeffrey Pollack on the 2008 WSOP. Reportedly, some of the points he touched upon were as follows, There will not be a tent; A team of people will be available for questions throughout the series; There will be no more than 55 events and; New WSOP ads will be airing soon featuring the voice of Don Cheadle, actor, author and activist.
It was also reported that there will again also be charity affiliations such as Ante Up for Africa. At the 2007 World Series of Poker, Don Cheadle along with Annie Duke organized the charity poker tournament which portions of winnings were donated by winning players to the International Rescue Committee (aka The ENOUGH Project).
The Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative was spoken about by Robert Turner who has been involved in the poker industry for over twenty-five years and plays on ongoing role in shaping the development of poker. He is also one of the most well known and best loved professional poker figures in the world. Turner said there is a need for the regulation of poker and that there should be low play limits and inquiries made into a gambling sites ownership and security measures. He touched upon the facts regarding protection from collusion and cheating in online poker.
George Epstein, Lou Krieger, Tony Guerrera, Barbara Enright and Charlie Shoten were special guest speakers at today’s Conference. The topics they spoke on ranged from poker advice, their own experiences in poker and why they continue to play the game of poker. All in all, the California Poker Players Conference was a beneficial success.
