Jans Arends has a successful online poker career and has won almost $4.6 million in the past three months. Still, he extended his great form when he won $2,576,729 in the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) $100,000 buy-in no-limit Hold’em event.
Arends stated after the tournament that he gradually transitioned from soft live poker events and excelled at Triton. He added that this year has been successful for him so far. The player won his second gold bracelet.
He won the first bracelet in the 2020 WSOP Online Festival $1,000 buy-in event after beating 1,777 opponents to bag the $129,745 top prize. Arends said that winning another bracelet doesn’t make him feel special, even though he loves trophies. He amassed 1,080 Card Player Player of the Year (POY) points from his latest win and has 3,700 total points now.
Still, Arends is in 10th position in the 2023 POY competition. The recent event had a $8,997,750 prize pool that only 14 players shared, including Koray Aldemir, David Peters, and Kristen Foxen.

How Things Unfolded
Arends had the largest stack when Day 3’s action kicked off. Ding Biao got busted first after Chance Kornuth’s A-Q outran his K-J in a preflop all-in. The former finished sixth with $469,464.
Jeremy Ausmus followed Biao in fifth place after losing most of his chips in a preflop race. Kornuth got busted in fourth place after Cary Katz’s A-J beat his A-9. The latter used a diamond to land a flush on the river and won the pot before ending the former’s run.
Mateos held the stack lead for a while before Arends beat him in a pot and collected some of his chips. The latter’s pocket nines beat the former’s K-J in a preflop flip sending him packing in third place with $1,142,147.
Arends and Katz clashed in heads-up action. The former had an almost 4:1 chip advantage over the latter. Arends extended the lead before Katz doubled up.
The former used ADiamond SuitKDiamond Suit to make a button limp. Katz used QSpade Suit4Spade Suit to make a 15 big blinds all-in move before Arends called. Even so, the board ran out AHeart SuitQDiamond SuitJHeart Suit3Club SuitKSpade Suit, and Arends got the top two pair while sending Katz packing as a runner-up with $1,592,539.
