The RunGood Poker Series just wrapped up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and it was a teacher from the state of Arkansas that took home the top prize. While there were other small events taking place during the series, all eyes were on the $800 Main Event.
RunGood initially announced that the total guarantee prize money would be around $100,000, but this number was increased based on the number of entrants. There ended up being 558 players entered into this tournament, and that created plenty of drama and excitement.
After the dust had settled, it was Todd Tucker that ended up winning the massive first place prize of $73,242. Tucker was not only able to navigate more than 500 different opponents, but he was able to get past David McFeely in heads up play.
There was more than 11 hours of poker action on the final day as it wasn’t easy for players to be eliminated. Tucker also took home a Dream Seat package by winning this event, and that will allow him to compete in the Dream Seat Invitational.
Online poker continues to grow in popularity throughout the United States, but events like this prove that in-person poker can be just as lucrative. This event took place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tulsa, and it’s known for hosting some massive events.
Tucker Has Some Momentum
A year ago at this time, Todd Tucker was a relatively unknown poker player on the circuit, but things have now changed in a big way. Tucker took home nearly $100,000 by finishing in fourth place in a World Series of Poker event, and played a great brand of poker to win this event.
After winning this event, Tucker revealed that he is a high school teacher in Alma, Arkansas, and most of his winnings will be spent on his family. Tucker has two daughters that are involved in sports, and spends a majority of time with his family.
It looked as if Tucker was going to come up short at this event as he saw the momentum shift in a big way against him. He entered heads up play with a 3 to 1 chip advantage, but McFeely actually took the lead at one point.
McFeely ended up making a few crucial mistakes after taking the lead, and that allowed Tucker to get back in front. This heads up play ended with Tucker having a full house and McFeely simply hoping for some luck on the river.
Plenty of Great Players
There were 69 players that entered Day 2 of the competition, but it didn’t take long for that field to get whittled down to the nine final table players. Todd Nichols came into Day 2 as the chip leader, but he was the third player eliminated at the final table.
After three players were eliminated, players continued to be extremely cautious, and that kept the action going deep into the night. Everyone in the top-10 went home with a solid prize as William McCracken ended up in that position and took home $7,382.
