The state of Delaware is one of just three in the United States that offers online gambling options. One of two states that offers online casino game play. The state launched with little fanfare back in October of last year and has been slowly but surely gaining ground. With less population than New Jersey and Nevada, the state has struggled with revenues. However, over the past few months, the state has continued to see an increase in their gambling revenues without decline.
According to the figures released by the Delaware Lottery, the state was able to bring in just over $206,000 for the month of March. Of this number, online poker brought in $84,391. Just last month the state earned $73,971 in poker with an overall revenue of $166,454 from online gaming. This may not seem like much when compared to New Jersey, who offers the same type of gaming, but the state is continuing to see an increase in the amount generated.
Delaware Park tends to be the leader of the pack in the state while Dover Downs and Harrington Raceway come in last. Poker revenues as compared to the Nevada sites are daunting as Nevada was able to bring in $824,000 for the month of February, as March figures have yet to be released. With online gambling, the state of New Jersey was able to bring in $11.9 million in revenues, so there is a huge gap when it comes to revenues between each state.
Just a short time ago, Delaware and Nevada entered into an agreement that would see interstate action take part between the two states and other states are open to join. With more states looking to legalize online gaming, such as California and Pennsylvania, the two states could gain more partners in this manner. By sharing player pools, both states would be able to see an increase in player numbers which should increase overall revenues.
It will be interesting to see as the months progress if Delaware continues to see an increase in revenues and proves the old adage ‘slow and steady wins the race’ or if New Jersey will continue to pull away as the leader in US online gambling revenues.
