With daily fantasy sports under investigation by the FBI, Department of Justice and several states, it is no surprise that Amaya Gaming has decided to pull StarsDraft from the United States. The announcement from Amaya Gaming to remove their daily fantasy sports site from the majority of the states in the US, comes just days after Nevada regulators ruled daily fantasy sports as gambling, forcing sites such as DraftKings and FanDuel to shut down services within the state’s borders.
StarsDraft is the new daily sports betting site of Amaya Gaming and will only be available for customers in New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts and Kansas. Fantasy sports were considered legal due to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 carve out but with DFS and the increase in popularity, changes are now taking place in regards to legislation.
Amaya seems to be taking precautions to remove themselves from jurisdictions that may consider DFS illegal or the need to be regulated. Customers of StarsDraft received an email from Amaya Gaming, detailing the removal from particular states.
In the email, an update was made to the list of accepted states and read that StarsDrafts regrets to inform customers that the brand is now limiting operations to select states. Players physically located in the four states mentioned above would be the only areas in which StarsDraft could offer fantasy sports contests.
Amaya reminded players of their integrity and that all balances of StarsDraft would remain in full and would be available for withdrawal at the player’s earliest convenience. To make the withdrawal process as easy as possible, StarsDraft has removed the minimum withdrawal restrictions.
