Sensitive Information Revealed During Carbon Poker Crash

Every now and then an online poker room will crash and will result in players losing out on a hand or a tournament being interrupted. It was recently reported that Carbon Poker had major issues due to a server crash at Merge Network which resulted in personal information of players being viewed by others, not as intended by the poker site.

According to the 2+2 forums, PokerUpdate is reporting that players were able to play with real money balances of accounts that were not their own. Financial information as well as personal information was seen by the players, which is a major risk to members of the site. The network is now under fire with the breach of security and players are now unsure as to if they should trust the brand.

The crash took place as the Carbon Online Poker Series was concluding so many of the top events were disrupted. Players were taking part in the Main Event of the series as well as the Sunday Majors when the crash occurred. Having making it to the final round of high guaranteed events, players were beside themselves as they saw their access to the game denied.

When players tried to reconnect they were given access to other member’s accounts. Carbon Poker wanted to ease players’ minds and tried to make the crash seem a lesser problem than it actually was. Carbon Support took to 2+2 and stated that during a ‘very brief window’ in the early morning hours of a server restart, certain players that used the auto-login setting were returned to another players gaming session.

Apparently those affected were ‘one of the very few players affected’, according to Carbon Poker. The online poker room further stated that they are confident that possible interaction with the other players account was limited and the site is taking measures to confirm that the situation is fully contained.

Players affected wanted a refund or some compensation for the incident and were at first denied by Carbon Poker Support. After a time, the online poker room decided to give reimbursement for the equity lost during the server crash. While every player would want compensation for the incident, players are still outraged and worried as to how other players would have been given access to their online gaming accounts.
