A few days after the PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) came to an end, the organizers have come up with another tournament. PokerStars dived into SCOOP Afterparty, a short tournament for players thrilled about SCOOP a few days ago. The SCOOP afterparty will continue until May 18.
It’s comprised of 60 triple-tiered competitions, a total of 180 matches. The tournament uses the same approach as SCOOP, as each event has three buy-in levels. There will be three primary events on May 16, where buy-ins will be $55, $530, and $5,200.
Guarantees for these events include $1 million, $1.5 million, and $1.5 million, respectively. The organizer is holding freerolls daily that will award $250,000 in tickets in the next two weeks.
$140 Million in Prize Money
During the last SCOOP event, PokerStars attracted 1.7 million participants. These entries contributed to surpassing the $100 million guaranteed prize pool to $140 million.
The Managing Director & Commercial Officer, Poker, Product, and Innovation at PokerStars voiced his gratitude. He said that the PokerStars community turned up in large numbers to enjoy SCOOP events, promotions, and everything the brand had put together. Severin Rasset said that SCOOP was the most popular event that players looked forward to each year.
He added that this year’s series brought the prize poll money awarded to players to $1 billion, marking it as a major achievement. The manager cheered on a better time, come next year.
The tournament had six main events, including three pot-limit Omaha and three No-Limit Hold ’em. The ultimate event was the No-Limit Hold ’em Main Event with a $10,300 buy-in.
It attracted 664 entries and accumulated a $640 million prize category. There was another No-Limit Hold ’em Main Event with a buy-in of $109, which attracted 38,913 entries.
Most players had a memorable experience at the SCOOP series. But, benny “rungodlike” Glaser stands to boast the most after winning his sixth scoop title. Benny has won at least one SCOOP prize since 2018.
The Tournament Did Come With Some Hitches
The tournament ran smoothly from attracting an incredible number of entries and surpassing the guaranteed prize pool. However, it had some hitches. The player who won the high leaderboard and the overall leaderboard also failed to get his prize.
After the last event, the tournament organizers have listed the Partypoker ambassador Patrick Leonard as the champion for both titles. Yet, Leonard targeted Jussi “calvin7v” Nevanlinna during the last few tournaments. Jussi wanted to finish fourth in the last event to win the player of the series but did not win, leading to Leonard’s win.
After the event, Leonard realized he had leaderboard points for a tournament he did not cash in. He tweeted about it, saying he shouldn’t have gained the points. Leonard believed that Zapahzamazki should have the points, which meant winning the series’ player of the year title and $25,000.
In the wake of the following day, PokerStars confirmed Leonard’s tweeted message. Although he was crushed, PokerStars apologized and promised to award Leonard the same amount ($45,000) he would have won if he won the overall and high leaderboards titles. After getting the amount, Leonard decided to donate it to charity.
