Joe Cada

Joe Cada believes that rest and relaxation play a key role in playing WSOP events. He stated that he always had vacations before WSOP in order to empty his mind and regain focus. He stated that during the years he took vacations, he was able to make it to the final table of Main Event every time. Furthermore, Cada stated that he always looks forward to eating healthy and to get at least seven to eight hours of sleep every day. In other words, Cada suggests you relax but also stay on the right path with a diet and a strict sleeping schedule.

Ryan Riess

Riess also focuses on the physical aspect of preparation, stating that players need to prepare their bodies for a “grueling grind” that is quite common in WSOP events. Therefore, he suggests you take care of your body, which means that you should eat healthily and get a decent amount of sleep both before the tournament and during it (if possible). Riess actually drew a line with running, stating that WSOP is more of a marathon than a sprint, which means that players need to condition themselves for long poker sessions.

Maria Ho

Ho doesn’t really focus on physical but rather on mental preparation for poker, and she suggests that players watch as many videos about poker as possible in order to understand what’s happening at the table and get a grip on every possible situation that may occur. Furthermore, she added that watching as many videos as possible would help players understand whether they need to improve something in their game. One type of videos to analyze is how the best players handled certain situations.

Josh Reichard

Reichard brings in the social aspect of the game and says that players should prepare for WSOP by discussing poker and various poker strategies with their friends. He said that his game improved as he talked about it with his poker buddies who shared their ideas and approaches to playing poker. He stated that hearing other people discuss their strategies allowed him to understand more ways his opponents would play some hands against them. In other words, Reichard’s approach is based on accumulating knowledge about all the possible strategies in order to gain a deeper understanding of the game and adjust to various styles of play.
