Can some of the biggest poker players in the world beat the Polaris 2? The Polaris 2 is the most sophisticated poker Artificial Intelligence machine in the world and it will be man against machine again at the second Man vs. Machine Poker Championship.

The match is going to be held during the Gaming Life Expo that is held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas from July 3rd to July 6th. After several years and thousands of hours of development the Polaris 2 was created by the University of Alberta’s Computer Poker Research Group. Going up against their creation are professional poker coaches and contributes of online poker training site Stox Poker.

Each of the players have won millions of dollars playing in high stakes games against some of the best players the world has to offer. According to Bryce Paradis, the lead coach at Stox Poker, “Against the current AI in Polaris 2, the average poker player would be completely dominated. The Polaris 2 team has made incredible improvements since the match last year. The most powerful change is that the AI will now learn from and adapt to its opponents’ play as the match progresses.

This year’s Man vs. Machine match is going to push our team to their limit.” At last years competition the machine went up against Phil Laak and Ali Esmali and the match ended with a final score of two wins and one loss, with one statistical tie for Phil and Ali. Each round was made up of 500 duplicate hands, where the same cards were dealt to both players.
