Players Who Retired from Poker in 2018

Some of the poker players seem to have it all figured out in 2018, and their new year will be more about rest and leisure as they decided to retire. Let’s take a look at who they are and why they decided to retire.

Vanesa Selbs

Vanesa is a three-time bracelet winner in the WSOP competitions and managed to rack up more than $11 million. At the moment she announced her retirement via her official Facebook page, she was one of the most popular poker players in the world. She stated that he had been standing on the fork which required her to choose either changing her approach to poker or quitting poker and pursuing something completely new and different. She went for the latter.

Jason Mercier

A part of PokerStars Team Pro, Mercier has had a long and successful poker career. He was caught in the machine, playing as many tournaments as possible. However, he started missing his family, which is the main reason why he quit playing poker. Mercier stated that he was a full-time husband and father at the moment and that he enjoyed it.

Doug Polk

Doug is an exceptional poker player and an entrepreneur as well as he co-founded Upswing poker. After winning $100-to-$10,000 Bankroll Challenge, he made an exclusive announcement where he stated that he was going to retire from poker. He said that he had a great time and that he had enjoyed playing poker, but that there had been no joy in playing in in the end. In fact, Doug added that it all started feeling like work.

Doyle Brunson

The Godfather of Poker has announced his retirement as well. After not playing for a long time, the legend returned to at the Rio and took part in the $10,000 NL 2-7 Single Draw. However, he announced that he was definitely going to retire after that, and the reason for his retirement is more than obvious – his age. Despite the fact that he is 85 years old, Mr Brunson stated that he was feeling like he was 30, except for his body which was slowing down. He added that he thought it was all a normal process, and stated that he would have loved to win another bracelet, next to 10 that he had already won.

Andy Frankenberger

Andy Frankenberger was a former banker-turned-poker-pro. However, poker is a game and banking is something that should be taken a lot more seriously. After dominating the poker world for quite a while, Frankenberger decided that it was time he returned to his first love and go back to being a banker. Retire is a strange word here as he is basically starting a new career, which isn’t new at all!
