The Las Vegas Strip hosted the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) for the first time in history. Still, this was the first time since 2004 that Rio didn’t host the popular poker series whose 53rd edition ended on Wednesday. The following were some of the series’ most memorable moments.
Phil Hellmuth Misses His 17th Bracelet After Losing to David Jackson
Phil Hellmuth is known to win a bracelet once he gets in a heads-up battle for it. But, things weren’t as usual on July 2 in Event No. 65:$3,000 Freezeout No-Limit Hold’em when he faced David Jackson.
The Bally’s Event Center had an exciting atmosphere that evening as Chris Hunichen led a loud anti-Hellmuth rail who booed the 16-time champion. His chants bothered the “Poker Brat” and prompted him to call security officers.
Hellmuth shocked the rail when he overtook Jackson in the chip lead. But, the latter managed to beat him in the final hand and end his dream of winning his 17th WSOP bracelet.
Macho Man Dan Wins His Second Consecutive Poker Players Championship
Dan “Jungleman” Cates wore the “Macho Man” costume and dominated the $50,000 Poker Players Championship. He is the only player who has ever won two consecutive championships as he received $1,449,103.
The victory makes him an eligible Poker Hall of Fame contender in 2030 when he turns 40. Cates played a WWE star’s character in the five-day event and had a spot on “Macho Man” impersonation.
Seiver Parts With $43K While Signing Up for a $1K Tournament
Scott Seiver disappointed his supporters when he failed to advance to the $1,000 Buy-In Flip & GO event’s final table. He was the only entrant who paid $43,000 to get into the event but left without winning money as other players entered the event less than 43 times. His dismal performance didn’t prevent him from having fun as he bought drinks for people in the FLIP & GO.
Eight players sat at each table and they flipped to advance to the payout. One remaining player in each table battled it out in a no-limit Texas hold ’em event and Christopher Chatman won the tournament taking home $187,770.
Espen Jorstad Wins $10 Million in the 2022 WSOP Main Event
Poker players from all over the world aspire to compete in the annual WSOP Main Event. Espen Jorstad beat 8,663 entrants in this year’s event and won $10 million.
He was the Tag Team tournament champion this summer. The player joined poker pros like Koray Aldemir, Johnny Chan, and Doyle Brunson.
Adam Friedman Gets Busted Early in the $10K Dealers Choice
Adam Friedman has the longest streak in the $10,000 Buy-In Dealers Choice Championship after he won three consecutive tournaments. He beat Phil Hellmuth in heads-up action and won $248,340 in the championship.
Unfortunately, his streak ended this year after he got busted on Day 1. Even so, Friedman won his fifth WSOP bracelet in Event No. 22:$10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship and took home $248,254.
Efthymia Litsou Is the Only Remaining Woman in the 2022 WSOP Main Event
Several women participated in this year’s WSOP Main Event but none of them outlasted Efthymia Litsou, a recreational player. The New York resident won $323,100 after finishing 18th in the tournament. The Hendon Mob states that she had $26,000 in live poker tournament cashes before she signed up for the Main Event.
