New Jersey Taking Aggressive Measures to Increase Online Gambling Revenues

new-jersey-stampThe state of New Jersey has offered legal iGaming options since late November and revenues earned from the venture have been a little less than stellar. Officials, such as Governor Chris Christie, believed that the advent of legal online gambling sites in the state would be able to generate hundreds of millions of dollars for the state in additional revenues.

Reports from the Division of Gaming Enforcement and nj.gov are now showing that the state has only generated a little more than $27 million from the launch date to the end of February. Operators are now taking a more aggressive approach to bring in players to hopefully increase revenues and increase awareness of New Jersey online casinos and poker sites to its residents.

According to a recent report by WSJ, state casinos have started to heavily promote additional advertising through bus promotion and billboards. Radio advertisements and television commercials are also being played in the hopes that people who may not know about the many different types of online gaming options that are currently available.

According to the President of the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa Tom Balance, it is most likely going to take time for the online market to grow. Balance stated that “this is a business that hasn’t been legal, and a lot of people don’t know it’s legal.”

Operators have also been busy fixing issues that have taken place after initially launching their software platforms to the public. From payment problems to geo-location glitches, operators have made sure to repair these issues so players are able and feel comfortable taking part in online gambling. Smartphone applications have also just begun to be released so players can take advantage of mobile gaming. Mobile gaming is a big draw for players and as the applications are advertised more, players may begin to take part in this form.

Many blame poor advertising for the lack of player interest and this is why many operators have upped their promotion game. It will be interesting to see if the market in New Jersey continues to stay at lower projections for revenues or if new players will start to sign up in larger numbers after the companies have begun to advertise more freely.
